Ahora que llegamos al castillo, podemos hablar un poco de él. Este castillo es uno de los pocos en Portugal que su estructura se encuentra intacta a lo largo de los años, ha sobrevivido terremotos y todos los eventos que han pasado desde que fue construido en el siglo IX al día de hoy. Desde el 16 de junio de 1910 es considerado un monumento nacional. El motivo de su construcción se remonta a la época de la invasión musulmana, siendo un fuerte de protección contra tal invasión. En 1165 fue conquistado por D. Afonso Henriques y en 1191 lo perdieron los Almóadas. Luego de la edad media y años de batallas de conquistas del territorio a partir del siglo XV, su estructura fue utilizada para funciones de pescas, por el cual en ciertas zonas del castillo podemos ver indicaciones de los lugares donde era utilizado para tal función. Después de los sucesos en 1933-1945, el gobierno decidió destruir por completo el castillo para hacer una remodelación de cero debido a algunas zonas que se encuentran en deterioros y, a día de hoy, mantiene esta hermosa arquitectura medieval llena de muchas historias para contar...

Este castillo no solo puedes visitar sus alrededores del lado exterior también se encuentra abierto al público su lado de adentro donde puedes recorrer sus murallas, ir a la torre y caminar por su centro, sin duda es una experiencia única que no te puedes perder además que tienes unas vistas que no podrás olvidar, del mar junto con las montañas y los pueblos cercanos.

Otro lugar que puedes visitar es la iglesia Santa María que se encuentra en el castillo. Fue construido en el año 1165, por orden de D Sancho, o sea después de la edificación del castillo. Tiene un estilo románico gótico, pero a lo largo de los siglos ha sufrido daño. En 1965 y 2001, fue tomado para iniciar su reconstrucción y abrir para el público. Otro dato curioso es que también se realizan eventos como casamientos. Justo el día en que visité la iglesia no pude entrar porque estaban teniendo una boda.

- Otro destino adonde tienes que ir, es sí o sí, es el columpio que se encuentra al lado de la montaña del castillo. A pesar de que se ve lejos, realmente es un recorrido de máximo 20 minutos, donde podrás divertirte y tomarte unas fotos únicas teniendo de fondo los paisajes de Sesimbra.
