When you have nothing (you have nothing to loose, right?) you can still have yourself. And to have yourself is to have everything. For this week #threetunetuesday challenge I present an eclectic selection of three songs that brightened up my day today; the tracks belong mostly to 80-es epoch, even although I got acquainted with them much later. Worth your attention: Roxy Music, Nick Cave, Laurie Anderson.

Roxy Music — Love is the Drug

(from «Siren» LP, 1975)

'Love Is the Drug' was the first single and opening track off Roxy Music's 1975 'Siren' LP; it is incredibly good and really timeless, a rock standard - no surprise it became a #2 hit in UK and reached #30 in US pop singles chart. I fall in love with it immediately since I first heard it in 1991 in my teens, and will love it till the end, even after 100,000 replays it sounds fresh and exciting. By the way, we are the same age - and aging together at the same time.

Nick Cave — I'm Your Man (Leonard Cohen's cover)

(live version.. from somewhere)

This is one of a dozen my-forever-fave Cohen songs. Today (thanks kindly dear Youtube!) I came across this live version from good old pal Nick Cave. Not that I needed a cover or asked for it, but it turned out to be surprisingly good (this is ofc subjective) but definitely it is fresh, and have some convincing, dirty, raw brass section. Have a pleasure and do check it. Original version by Cohen is highly recommended too!

Laurie Anderson — Beautiful Red Dress

(official video; from «Strange Angels» LP, 1989)

I have a long and complicated relationship history with this magical woman and her music, with its ups and downs, periods of obsession and loosing interest. Yes, I am not able to absorb her music in whole albums (as is the case with some other artists), but her figure itself attracts me non-stop. Laurie is less of a singer, or a melodist... she is more of a charismatic storyteller, performer and a showrunner. She definitely has a charisma of sorts... and left a remarkable trace in alternative music history. Oh by the way - a special fact which I believe is not a well-known one - she was Lou Reed's wife, it doesnt matter ofc when we speak about music, but... isnt it cool?

I hope you enjoyed today's music selection, and travelling around the globe without leaving the Hive. 😎 The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by @ablaze.
