Hello hiver!
With a straightforward purpose in mind, I embarked on my early journey to the heart of Berlin, intent on capturing a physical moment of the architecture. Walking through the streets of Berlin with my camera hung around my neck is like vacillating in a visual moment where time is folding back into itself.
I started my walk around the grand Reichstag Presidential Palace, where its historic architecture and classic façade brings reminders of where it has lived, the many changes the city has seen through this time. The building made me stop, frame my shot, and click, trying to capture the majesty and memory you can feel in every stone.
In the commercial areas downtown, a simple sidewalk offered me a typical Berlin scene: vibrant and modern advertising wrapped around old façades, showing the daily coexistence of past and present.
Not far from there, the Berlin Mitte Hotel surprised me with its mix of subtle modernity and details that evoke Berlin’s character, reflecting the energy of the neighborhood.
On my walk, I passed by the Zoo Palast, a historic place whose shape builds a bridge between functional architecture and contemporary style.
With its 33 dizzying levels, the tall Upper West tower loomed before the bustling Breitscheidplatz. Its sleek, contemporary architecture, with glass façades and crisp lines, set a striking contrast with the ancient Kaiser Wilhelm Church.
I completed my trip near to where I had begun as I headed back. The Paul Löbe Building, with its more recent and functional architecture, showed me another side of the city; a transparent and bright building representing the openness of German politics, right on the banks of the River Spree, contrasting with nearby classic buildings.
With every shot, I tried to capture that conversation between old and new — the Berlin that knows how to blend both harmoniously. Every corner of the city has its own story, beyond the big buildings, in the everyday urban rhythm.
