The German company of tires and equipment for the Continental car will prohibit part of its employees to use the messaging systems WhatsApp and Snapchat in their professional telephones because they do not respect the new European regulation of data protection.

"We believe that these services have deficiencies in terms of data protection because they access the personal and potentially confidential data of the user, such as contacts, who are third parties and have not given their consent," the company said in a statement.

Continental, based in Hanover, which also manufactures spare parts and computer programs, told AFP that the ban will apply to business phones of 36,000 of the total of 240,000 employees it has worldwide.

According to the company, WhatsApp and Snapchat do not comply with part of the European General Data Protection Regulation (RGPD), which entered into force on May 25.
