Hello Again My Friends

Welcome back. Today I liked to show you guys what I've been working on over this past weekend. It's been awhile since i've actually worked on a controller design, 6 years to be exact! I was actually designing my own personal controller for the PlayStation 4, and I wanted it to be made back in 2019 but never gotten around to it. So I'd figured I would take my concept that I was making for the PlayStation 4 controller and apply it to the PlayStation 5 controller. I think this may be the first time I've ever designed a controller in 3D!

This is what I was working on all those years ago, before covid happened. I was going to turn this concept over to a company called XQ gaming. They make a lot of creative extravagant controllers, ranging from an Alien movie themed controller to pro style controllers. Unfortunately they haven't been active on their YouTube lately, so I don't even know if they're still in business or not. As you can tell from the photo, my favorite color is green. It compliments with the black quite well. The ghost you see on the left of the controller is from Pokemon Red on the original Nintendo Gameboy. The Lavender Town Ghost! The figure that you see on the middle touch pad is called shadow. It's a boss from a game called Castlevania Harmony Of Dissonance. The Kanji characters says ghost in Japanese. Honestly, I thought it looked really cool so I slapped it right on the controller. I replaced the shape buttons with Japanese Katakana numbers because I played a lot of fighting games at the time. It's just the fighting game lingo, when one is trying to explain certain moves or combos. With that being said, lets get right into designing the DualSense controller. 😎

I went to the Sketch Fab website to pick up the DualSense controller. There were several of them, but I thought this was the best looking one out of all of them. It's quite well made and the typology was really good too. I downloaded the model and opened it in Blender so I could take it a part. I did this so that it would be easier to add materials to each part later on in the project. You can find this model here so you make your own designs. https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/playstation-5-dualsense-878c1f882808477ab81c2fe86d5a3936

Then I proceeded to add different types of materials for the controller. For the directional pad and the shapes buttons on the right, I messed around with the shaders to make it look like gloss. For the front shell of the controller, I tried to go for a matte like texture but also adding a little bit of shine to it. With the analog sticks however, I bump up the roughness so it'd actually looked like rubber. With everything else, I just applied the same technique. As I was doing this, I kept glancing over to my real controller to see if I was getting the materials correct and I think it turned out pretty good. 👍

And Lastly. To add texture to the controller, I needed to do something called UV Unwrap. It's basically like taking someones face and ripping their skin off to flatten it out (lol). That was a bit morbid, but that's the best way I can describe it. 😅 After that, it was pretty easy to apply the graphics on to the controller. It took a bit of time but I was able to finish it. I tried to make it look just like the PlayStation 4 controller concept. Obviously it's not a one to one remake due to the difference of the controllers. But I think it turned out really good. Now, onto the glamour shots! ⭐️ ✨

I'm actually thinking about getting this controller made. It'll probably cost a little more than a DualSense Edge! 🤯 So I could just send my own controller in to save on cost. But now that I think about it, we're pretty much towards the end of PlayStation 5's console life. It's hard to believe that the console came out 5 years ago, during covid. Interesting times. I'm wondering if Sony will keep the same controller design when the PlayStation 6 comes out. They seem to always make unnecessary changes. So hopefully, they don't make too many changes for the next controller. If you like to see more designs, let me know down in the comment section below.

I just discovered this producer not too long ago. The music that he makes sounds like you're waking up at the crack of dawn, ready to tackle the day. Also, the person who edit the video really knows how to mash the visuals with hip hop music. If you're curious, the movie is called Rumble In The Bronx staring Jackie Chan.

And as always, have a good one guys, until next time, peace, love, and positivity. I'm out.
