Holozing
ホロジング
Hello Again My Friends
Welcome back. I thought I'd take a break from collectors editions and do a small 3D project. I actually spoke with @acidyo about Holozing at the beginning of the year. He briefly went into detail on what the project was about and what he was trying to accomplish for the game. I thought that it was super interesting and intriguing. I could also tell that the game took a lot of inspiration from Pokemon. Then that's when an old memory popped up in my brain not too long ago, where I use to play Pokemon on the original Game Boy. The blue and red version to be specific. So I thought that maybe I should make my own version of that but with a Holozing twist to it haha. 😁
I wanted to choose Wrackoo because his overall design is really cool, plus I like green! But I also thought that he would go great with the Game Boy console. And just like with Pokemon where they had red and blue versions, I wanted to make a green version for Holozing. I don't know what it is but this creature gives me a sense of nostalgia. Don't get me wrong, the other creatures are quite cool and unique too, but this one really made me gravitate towards it. Whoever designed this creature, did one hell of a job.
The next thing I did was go to a website called imagenerator. You can basically choose any image you want from your own library and make it look like an old Game Boy pixel image, kinda like a filter. There's a lot of website's like this one, but I think this particular one gives the best looking results. This will be for when I start texturing the Game Boy screen. If you want to play around and pixelate your own images here's the website that you can go to https://imagenerator.net/gbc
I went to the o'l reliable and got on SketchFab to see if there was any 3D Game Boy models and there were a lot of them, but I ended up going with this one because it was very well made. Here's a link to the 3D model which is free to use. https://skfb.ly/o8DRy It has a lot of details such as scratches and bump maps which is a texture that makes it look like 3D. All of the textures you see were already provided. So I went into Photo shop and took the pixelated Wrackoo image and just placed it where the Game Boy screen was. I made it look exactly like how the original Pokemon game was when you first boot the game up.
For the game cartridge, I took some inspiration from the original box art from Pokemon. I really tried to go for the same aesthetic just like how it was back in the 1990's. I textured the cartridge by using the same method with the Game Boy Screen. I then moved the texture into Blender and put it on the cartridge. I also switched out the text from Game Boy to Hive Boy.
The final thing I worked on were the shaders for the outer shell of the console. I changed the texture to green and put Hive Boy on it in Photo shop. Then I moved that texture in Blender and put it on the console. I made a green translucent shader for the A and B buttons and for the select and start buttons, I just bumped up the roughness shader to max so it resembles rubber. With that being said, here are the final renders for the console!
If Holozing really was on a Game Boy or just a very high quality pixel game, I think it would be truly an amazing concept. Personally I enjoy looking at 2D pixel games because I grew up playing them. From Castlevania to Mario And Luigi Super Star Saga. In terms of those types of games but I think you could also make a really good 3D game with 2D elements if done correctly. Overall I just wanted to mix something modern with an old school concept. I honestly really like how the game cartridge turned out. Has and old feel to it. Let me know what you think down in the comment section on this mini project.

Sade - Kiss of Life (KAYTRANDA Edit)
I gotta listen to more tracks from Kaytranda. This person makes some pretty dope beats. I also noticed that there's was a familiar sound that was also in one of MF Doom's tracks. If you know the beat, then props to you.
And as always, have a good one guys, until next time, peace, love, and positivity. I'm out.
