Light falls through charcoal filigrees, clouds pulse an aquamarine reality. In the faces of abandoned gods blue thunderheads inflame rain, mourning echoes of the land's pain.
Sand rasps calico dust over deserts, rust oxidizes in the bones of trucks; the abandoned husks of thinking animals.
The sky flames azure as gods die. Lightening breaks, a beating drum heralding all that has gone… to renew in times to come.
This photo inspired my poetic muse with the vivid blue dramatic sky which somehow put me in mind of an angry god glowering over the parched landscape, threatening, but hopeful, with the promise of rain. This is often how it goes with me when writing poetry. A picture, song or place inspires a single image in my mind and when I start typing, it develops into something more.
In this case, it led to images of abandoned vehicles in a somewhat post-apocalyptic landscape, commenting on the degradation of our world and the ravages of pollution.
