Overawed, we stare at stippled sky
where dolphins wheel, sing and fly.
The dipping waves frame hallowed drifts
of bubbles. Swift, sure and sleek -
chattering the pod seek out the sun,
in mottled patches of coral crowns
before spying us and plunging, down.
Quicksilver motion, as they careen by
in and through our roiling pod
of clumsy divers - rolling, inelegant.
A single smiling ocean jester lingers,
the rest shoot off into blue memory.
The jester dances in diffuse motion,
swallowing bubbles, nibbling fins.
A cavalcade of chaotic spinning grey
skin and twinkling eyes, until bored,
one wave of powerful tail leaves
a back-draft of speed,
in a whirlpool of current
and settling specks of seaweed.
