Tina woke up from a short nap. It's Tuesday morning, and she has been at home for the past two weeks since she lost her job as a customer service attendant in a company. This was a place she had been working for two years until that fateful Thursday, when a customer provoked her to anger, and she unleashed her frustration, which led to the loss of her job. Tina had been going through a difficult time as her mother was slightly ill and she needed financial assistance, but couldn't get anywhere, and her younger sister is still in school, for whom Tina had been her sponsor.
She had been receiving calls lately for financial assistance for her mother and sister, Tomi, while balancing her work life until she lost it.
"We are still in the morning?, Tina hissed as she struggled to get up from the bed. "I thought it was evening, was the nap that short?", she further said and hissed.
"Ohhhhhh", she shrugged and hissed again. "Will I just be home? Until now? Oh God", Tina further said and dragged her feet to the kitchen when she heard her phone ringing in the bedroom.
"Nobody should call me abeg (please)", she hissed and soaked cassava flakes, popularly called garri in Nigeria in a bowl to drink.
She was murmuring as she was taking the garri, "I am bored, I've been home for the past two weeks, applying for jobs like never before but nothing yet. Everything is so fucked up", she hissed again as she took the last gulp of the garri and walked silently to the kitchen to wash the bowl.
She heads to the room to pick up her phone. She checked the call dial and saw that it was an unknown number. "Who is this one?" she asked and scoffed, then hissed. "I am in a very unfriendly mood, nobody should give me unnecessary calls at this time, please, Tina further said as she moved near her boxes where she kept her clothes.
"I should rearrange these clothes, by the time I'm done, the time will have gone, and I will just look for what to eat for dinner and sleep", she said to herself and started bringing her clothes out of the boxes.
"Ehhh, so I still have these clothes", she said with a smile as she brought out a joggers and a shirt. "That naughty Seun said won't know where she kept hers again", Tina said as she placed it beside her.
She continued arranging her clothes until she felt pressed and went to the restroom. Before she came back, there was a missed call from the same number. "Tomi, warn yourself, I know this is one of your schemes to get me to pick up your calls", Tina said as she pointed to her mobile phone.
After arranging the clothes, she checked the time and it was just 2pm. "Why is the time always slow when one is jobless?, What am I to do again now?", Tina asked herself as she lay helplessly on the bed.
"Everyone has gone to work, the whole compound is silent, see me now, I am the only jobless lady in the compound", Tina murmured.
Tina lay on her bed using her eyes to follow the rhythm of the fan, "At least I'm alive, that's enough, I guess. Why is this fan following my eyes?" she asked as she frowned.
"Anything can annoy a jobless lady", Tina said pointing at the fan.
As Tina stood to walk around, her phone rang once again, and she reluctantly picked up. "Hello, Tomi, warn yourself, why are you disturbing me?", Tina shouted.
"Hello, ma'am, it's not Tomi, my name's David, I've been trying to reach you for the past few hours, but you weren't picking up.
"Ha, Mr David, I'm so sorry sir, I thought it was my sister", Tina quickly replied.
"You submitted an application a few months ago, and I'm happy to tell you that your application has been considered and you are invited for an interview tomorrow. The details have been sent to your email", David said.
"Wow, thank you so much, sir. I appreciate, and I will surely be there", Tina replied, and David hung up the call.
Throughout that day, Tina forgot she was bored, and she began to prepare for her interview. Ironed her clothes, cleaned her shoes, and started asking herself some possible questions. The next morning, Tina heads out for the interview.
