🦉 The Bohemian waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus)

  • Bombycilla bombux (Greek) silk, cilla (Latin) tail
  • garrulus lat .: garrire to chatter, babble, chirp, garrulus chatty, chirping, noisy; ax prone to

As soon as late autumn begins, you can already expect these birds to appear in the forests. They fly in large noisy flocks through the forest and sit on fruit and berry trees to refresh themselves. Most often I see them on viburnum and rowan, where they greedily swallow the berries whole.

Already in winter these birds fly to the city. and they can be found right in the yard on the rowan trees. Having eaten, the birds try to climb higher on the tree to be closer to the sun and warm up. In the spring they fly away, up until the beginning of May they can still be found, and at this time in addition to the remaining berries they will eat various sprouts and blossoming buds.
