¡Hola, otakus y amantes del manga y anime!
En el post de hoy, vamos a hablar un poco sobre la historia de "Dragon Ball", serie que ha dejado una huella perdurable en la cultura pop y ha inspirado a millones de fans en todo el mundo. Personalmente, fue una de las series que más influencia tuvo en mi camino como mangaka e ilustradora.
Así que vamos a empezar con los Inicios y cómo se convirtió en la creación de un clásico
La serie "Dragon Ball" fue creada por Akira Toriyama, un mangaka japonés que ya había comenzado a ganar reconocimiento con su serie anterior, "Dr. Slump". La idea de "Dragon Ball" nació de la combinación de dos de las pasiones de Akira Toriyama: por una parte las artes marciales y por la otra la aventura (¿reconocen algo de esto dentro de la serie?). Comenzó su publicación en la revista Weekly Shonen Jump en 1984 y rápidamente se posicionó como una de las series más populares debido a la mezcla única de acción, humor y personajes carismáticos que Toriyama sabía darle a la serie. Dragon Ball también está inspirada en la "Leyenda del Rey Mono".
La historia de "Dragon Ball" relata las aventuras de Son Goku, un niño con cola de mono que descubre que es un Saiyan, una raza alienígena con habilidades sobrehumanas e inicia con La Saga de Son Goku: De Niño a Guerrero. A lo largo de la serie, Goku crece y se convierte en un guerrero poderoso, enfrentándose a una variedad de enemigos y aliados en su búsqueda de las Esferas del Dragón, los cuales eran artefactos mágicos que podían conceder cualquier deseo al reunirlas e invocar a Sheng-Long.
La serie se divide en varias sagas, cada una con su propio conjunto de villanos y desafíos que obligaban a Gokú a evolucionar en su camino por convertirse en el más fuerte. Entre estas, podemos mencionar La Saga Saiyan la cual introduce a los Saiyan, incluyendo a Vegeta, el príncipe guerrero que se convierte en uno de los rivales más formidables de Goku y quien termina transformándose luego en uno de los personajes más queridos en la serie. Tenemos también La Saga de Frieza donde Goku y sus amigos llegan al planeta Namek, donde se enfrentan al tiránico Frieza. También podemos mencionar La Saga de Cell donde se presenta al androide Cell, un ser creado a partir de las células de los guerreros más fuertes del universo y quien se convierte en un enemigo bastante difícil de vencer.
El manga fue tan exitoso que lo condujo a la creación de una adaptación animada, que se convirtió en un fenómeno global. La parte inicial de un Goku niño y luego adolescente, da paso a un Goku adulto con hijos en "Dragon Ball Z" (DBZ) esta es quizás la parte más conocida de la serie. La serie continuó con "Dragon Ball GT", una parte no canónica donde Goku, junto con su nieta Pan y Trunks, el hijo de Vegeta, se embarcan a una aventura espacial para recuperar las Esferas del Dragón y evitar la destrucción de La Tierra. Más recientemente, "Dragon Ball Super" ha llevado la historia a nuevos niveles, introduciendo nuevos personajes y desafíos, como el Torneo de Poder y la amenaza de Jiren. También vemos a Goku y a Vegeta alcanzar nuevos niveles en su evolución Saiyan.
"Dragon Ball" no solo dejó una marca en el mundo del anime y el manga, sino que también ha tenido un impacto cultural significativo. La serie ha inspirado una amplia gama de mercancías, videojuegos, películas y series derivadas. Personajes como Goku, Vegeta y Piccolo se han convertido en iconos culturales, reconocidos incluso por aquellos que no son fans del anime. La influencia de "Dragon Ball" se puede ver en muchas otras series de acción y aventura, y su legado continúa creciendo. ¡Y hasta el Día de Goku se celebra!
A lo largo de las décadas, el estilo de dibujo de Akira Toriyama fue evolucionando, pasando de un estilo simple y caricaturesco en las primeras sagas de la historia a un estilo más detallado y realista en más recientes, algo muy interesante de ver para quienes estamos en el proceso de aprender a hacer manga. La narrativa también fue evolucionado: de historias más simples y lineales a tramas más complejas y emocionales.
Toriyama supo aprovechar el desarrollo de Goku desde su infancia hasta su adultez para crear un enganche emocional con los lectores, quienes vieron todo el proceso y sintieron que acompañaban a su héroe a través del camino de crecimiento, convirtiéndolo en una aventura compartida.
No hay duda que "Dragon Ball" dejó un gran legado en el mundo del manga y el anime y regaló momentos increíbles y emocionantes a todos los que disfrutaron las aventuras del pequeño Goku y lo acompañaron en su travesía.

Today, we're going to talk a bit about the history of "Dragon Ball," a series that has left a lasting impression on pop culture and has inspired millions of fans worldwide. Personally, it was one of the series that had the most influence on my journey as a mangaka and illustrator.
So, let's start with the beginnings and how it became the creation of a classic.
The "Dragon Ball" series was created by Akira Toriyama, a Japanese mangaka who had already begun to gain recognition with his previous series, "Dr. Slump." The idea for "Dragon Ball" was born from the combination of two of Akira Toriyama's passions: martial arts and adventure (do you recognize any of this within the series?). It began its publication in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1984 and quickly positioned itself as one of the most popular series due to the unique blend of action, humor, and charismatic characters that Toriyama knew how to give to the series. "Dragon Ball" is also inspired by "The Legend of the Monkey King."
The story of "Dragon Ball" tells the adventures of Son Goku, a boy with a monkey tail who discovers he is a Saiyan, an alien race with superhuman abilities, and begins with The Saga of Son Goku: From Boy to Warrior. Throughout the series, Goku grows and becomes a powerful warrior, facing a variety of enemies and allies in his quest for the Dragon Balls, magical artifacts that can grant any wish when gathered and invoked to Shenron.
The series is divided into several sagas, each with its own set of villains and challenges that forced Goku to evolve on his path to becoming the strongest. Among these, we can mention The Saiyan Saga, which introduces the Saiyans, including Vegeta, the warrior prince who becomes one of Goku's most formidable rivals and eventually transforms into one of the most beloved characters in the series. We also have The Frieza Saga, where Goku and his friends arrive on the planet Namek, where they face the tyrannical Frieza. We can also mention The Cell Saga, where the android Cell is introduced, a being created from the cells of the strongest warriors in the universe and who becomes a quite difficult enemy to defeat.
The manga was so successful that it led to the creation of an animated adaptation, which became a global phenomenon. The initial part of a child and then teenage Goku gives way to an adult Goku with children in "Dragon Ball Z" (DBZ), which is perhaps the most known part of the series. The series continued with "Dragon Ball GT," a non-canonical part where Goku, along with his granddaughter Pan and Trunks, Vegeta's son, embark on a space adventure to recover the Dragon Balls and prevent the destruction of Earth. More recently, "Dragon Ball Super" has taken the story to new levels, introducing new characters and challenges, such as the Tournament of Power and the threat of Jiren. We also see Goku and Vegeta reach new levels in their Saiyan evolution.
"Dragon Ball" not only left a mark on the world of anime and manga but also had a significant cultural impact. The series has inspired a wide range of merchandise, video games, movies, and spin-off series. Characters like Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo have become cultural icons, recognized even by those who are not anime fans. The influence of "Dragon Ball" can be seen in many other action and adventure series, and its legacy continues to grow. Even Goku's Day is celebrated!
Over the decades, Akira Toriyama's drawing style evolved, transitioning from a simple and cartoonish style in the early sagas of the story to a more detailed and realistic style in more recent ones, something very interesting to see for those of us in the process of learning to make manga. The narrative also evolved: from simpler and more linear stories to more complex and emotional plots.
Toriyama took advantage of Goku's development from childhood to adulthood to create an emotional connection with readers, who saw the entire process and felt that they were accompanying their hero through the journey of growth, turning it into a shared adventure.
There is no doubt that "Dragon Ball" left a great legacy in the world of manga and anime and gave incredible and exciting moments to all those who enjoyed the adventures of little Goku and accompanied him on his journey.
