¡Hola tribu creativa!
¡Feliz lunes e inicio de semana! Espero que hayan disfrutado de un buen fin de semana. En el post de hoy, quiero compartirles otra escena de la historia de Pete e Ylia, para las actividades de la pareja OCxCanon del grupo de Selfshipping.
Como he mencionado en otros posts sobre esta pareja, Ylia y Brando, el piloto de Gaiking, empiezan a hacer amistad. A ella le gusta la forma tan sincera de ser de Brando y a él le encanta lo divertida y alegre que es siempre Ylia, así que se sienten cómodos trabajando y entrenando juntos y eso va haciendo que la amistad vaya creciendo paulatinamente.
Sin embargo, a Pete no le gusta esta interacción entre ellos. Teme que la forma de ser de Brando tan despreocupado y poco comprometido con la disciplina y a seguir instrucciones, termine permeando en Ylia durante su etapa de aprendizaje y termine convirtiéndose en otra piloto indisciplinada y poco comprometida con la seriedad que requiere la posición de ellos en su lucha contra las Fuerzas Negras del Terror y los planes de Darío El Grande, de conquistar el planeta Tierra.
Así que Pete, como Capitán del Gran Dragón del Espacio, busca la forma de mantener a esos dos controlados para que no se salgan del buen camino.
Un día, los encuentra conversando en medio del pasillo muy animadamente. Los observa un rato y ve que realmente están disfrutando un buen rato. No puede escuchar sobre qué hablan pero ambos se ríen bastante. No sabe porqué pero, mientras más los ve divirtiéndose, más le molesta la situación.
Cansado de observar, decide actuar. Entra en la habitación y sin darles tiempo a nada pasa por el medio de ellos obligándolos a separarse "- Si no van a hacer algo útil, entonces no estorben en el medio de los que sí tienen trabajo" les dice molesto. Brando e Ylia se quedan sorprendidos y sin saber qué hacer mientras lo ven alejarse. Después del pequeño susto, ambos deciden no darle mayor importancia al asunto, después de todo el Capitán es siempre demasiado directo y estricto al momento de dar sus opiniones o decir algo a los miembros de la tripulación cuando están en sus actividades de trabajo.
Para ilustrar esta escena, comencé por bocetear a Pete como la figura central de la ilustración. Quería que su pose indicara autoridad y un toque de molestia en su expresión, no demasiado como que pensar que estaba celoso pero sí la suficiente para demostrar que está inconforme con la situación. Fui definiendo sobre el boceto poco a poco sus rasgos hasta tener un boceto más completo.
Luego, procedí con el boceto de Brando. Quería que él reflejara una mezcla de sorpresa y extrañeza por la actitud de Pete al pasar justo en medio de ellos. No he dibujado en muchas ocasiones a Brando, pero se me ha hecho fácil su diseño, sobre la forma de su cabello.
El siguiente boceto fue el de Ylia. Ella muestra una reacción también de sorpresa y hasta un poco de miedo, al sorprenderse no sólo por la inesperada forma en que Pete los separa sino también por su tono de voz y su actitud que la toma totalmente desprevenida.
El lineart lo hice con brocha de lápiz. He ido probando algunas para decidir cuál me gusta más y hasta el momento, hay una que se ha convertido en mi favorita para este tipo de ilustraciones con estilo retro anime.
Al momento de colorear, esta ilustración se me hizo bastante rápida de realizar, ya que todos usan el mismo uniforme, así que fue rápido realizar el coloreado. Le agregué un poco más de sombras de las que este estilo de anime solía tener para hacer que las expresiones corporales y faciales se enfatizaran.
Para el background, tomé referencia de algunos de los pasillos del Gran Dragón del Espacio combinando el estilo de las puertas de algunas escenas más oscuras con el color claro de áreas de recreación, de modo que los personajes resaltaran sobre ella. Y así quedó al final:
Trabajar con esta pareja es realmente divertido y siempre aprendo cosas nuevas cuando trato de emular los escenarios. Se ha convertido indirectamente en una escuela de anime retro que no me canso de estudiar y practicar.

In today’s post, I’d like to share another scene from the story of Pete and Ylia for the OC×Canon pairing activities in the Selfshipping group.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts about this pairing, Ylia and Brando, the Gaiking pilot, are beginning to become friends. She appreciates Brando’s sincere nature, and he loves how fun and cheerful Ylia always is. They feel comfortable working and training together, and their friendship has been steadily growing.
However, Pete doesn’t like this interaction between them. He fears that Brando’s carefree attitude and lack of discipline when it comes to following orders will rub off on Ylia during her training period, turning her into another undisciplined pilot who doesn’t take seriously the responsibilities their positions demand in the fight against the Black Terror Forces and Darius the Great’s plans to conquer planet Earth.
So Pete, as Captain of the Great Space Dragon, looks for ways to keep them both in line so they don’t stray from the right path.
One day he finds them chatting animatedly in the middle of the corridor. He watches them for a while and sees they’re genuinely enjoying themselves. He can’t hear what they’re saying, but they’re both laughing heartily. He doesn’t know why, but the more he sees them having fun, the more annoyed he becomes.
Tired of observing, he decides to act. He enters the room and, without giving them any time to react, steps between them, forcing them apart. “If you’re not going to do something useful, then don’t get in the way of those who are,” he says angrily. Brando and Ylia stand there, surprised and unsure what to do, watching him walk away. After the little shock, they both decide not to make a big deal out of it, after all, the Captain is always too direct and strict when voicing his opinions or addressing crew members during work activities.
To illustrate this scene, I began by sketching Pete as the central figure of the drawing. I wanted his pose to convey authority with a hint of irritation, just enough to show he’s unhappy with the situation without making him seem jealous. I gradually refined his features until I had a more complete sketch.
Next, I sketched Brando. I wanted him to show a mix of surprise and bewilderment at Pete’s action of stepping right between them. I haven’t drawn Brando many times, but his design felt easy to capture, especially his hairstyle.
The following sketch was of Ylia. She reacts with surprise and a little fear, taken off guard not only by Pete’s unexpected way of separating them but also by his tone of voice and demeanor.
I did the line art using a pencil brush. I’ve been testing several to decide which I like best, and so far one has become my favorite for this type of retro anime style illustration.
When it came to coloring, this illustration went quite quickly since they all wear the same uniform. I added a bit more shading than this anime style typically has to emphasize their body language and facial expressions.
For the background, I referenced some of the corridors of the Great Space Dragon, blending the darker-door style from certain scenes with the lighter hues of recreation areas so the characters would stand out. And that’s how it turned out in the end:
Working with this pairing is truly fun, and I always learn new things when I try to recreate these scenarios. It’s become, indirectly, a retro-anime school that I never tire of studying and practicing.
