¡Hola tribu creativa del manga y el anime!
Hoy quiero compartirles un fanart que hice sobre un personaje que me encanta del anime retro y que tal vez algunos recuerden: Albert Ardley del anime Candy Candy.
En la serie, vemos que Albert cambia no sólo de aspecto físico sino que, en la medida que va desarrollándose la historia, su personaje va evolucionando siempre envuelto en un aura de misterio pero con un aspecto que permanece invariable: su amabilidad y su humildad.
Lo vemos al inicio como un vagabundo con lentes, cabello largo y una espesa barba con bigotes. Un aspecto bastante extraño que incluso hizo que Candy se asustara cuando lo vio para luego descubrir que el joven era muy amable y la salvó.
Posterior a ese encuentro, desaparece de la vida de Candy hasta que se vuelven a encontrar en Londres por casualidad. Esta vez ya no tiene barba y vemos que es un muchacho bastante joven y atractivo con cabello castaño. Trabaja en un zoológico y es amigo de Terry Granchester.
Vuelve a desaparecer de la vida de Candy para que el destino los vuelva a encontrar. Esta vez, Candy es una aprendiz de enfermera y él ha ingresado como un herido de guerra, por una explosión y a causa de esto, pierde la memoria. Perdido y sin nadie a quien acudir, Candy decide que debe cuidarlo hasta que recupere sus recuerdos y viven juntos, haciéndose pasar como hermanos.
Siempre su personalidad amable y su amor por los animales estuvo presente en todas sus facetas.
Así que quise hacer un fanart donde se mostrara ese aspecto de él, acompañado de su querida mofeta Puppet.
Por lo general, siempre hago el boceto completo de todo el cuerpo, sin embargo, en esta ocasión, fui haciendo los detalles en la medida que boceteaba. Ya que he sido fan del estilo de Shingo Araki, su diseño no se me hizo muy complicado de dibujar.
Hice el lineart con la plumilla G-Pen. Por lo general, hago las ilustraciones de anime retro con brochas de lápices, pero esta vez quise darle un toque más actual al lineart.
Luego, hice la base previo al coloreado. A veces uso algún color claro como base, pero cuando se trata de personajes que colores claros como el blanco, prefiero usar una base oscura para ayudarme a detectar fácilmente los lugares que queden vacíos o pixeles que queden sin relleno.
En el color, usé la paleta de tonos original del manga. Las escenas en Candy no tiene mucho sombreado, pero ya que había hecho un lineart con un toque más actual, quise agregar más sombras que las que se solían usar en esos animes.
Y el fondo lo trabajé con brochas de acuarela. A pesar de hacerlo simple, ya que quería que las figuras centrales fueran Albert y Puppet, hice el arbusto por capas de color para darle más profundidad al usar diferentes tonos para las hojas y dibujándolas con trazos independientes.
Y así quedó al final:
Albert fue un pesonaje que siempre me encantó y nunca había hecho fanarts de él. Una amiga quería verlo en mi estilo así que me animé y me gustó el resultado final. Tal vez me entusiasme y dibuje también a Terry para probar cómo me quedaría. ¿Algún fan de él por acá?

Today I want to share a fanart I made of a character I love from retro anime that some of you might remember: Albert Ardley from the anime Candy Candy.
In the series, we see Albert change not only in physical appearance but also as his character develops throughout the story; he’s always surrounded by an aura of mystery, yet one thing remains constant: his kindness and humility.
At first we see him as a wanderer with glasses, long hair, and a thick beard with a mustache , a rather strange appearance that even frightened Candy when she first saw him, only for her to discover that the young man was very kind and saved her.
After that encounter he disappears from Candy’s life until they meet again in London by chance. This time he no longer has a beard, and we see he’s a fairly young, attractive man with brown hair. He works at a zoo and is friends with Terry Granchester.
He disappears from Candy’s life again, only for fate to bring them back together. This time Candy is a trainee nurse and he arrives as a war casualty from an explosion; because of it, he loses his memory. Lost and with no one to turn to, Candy decides she must take care of him until he regains his memories, and they live together, passing as siblings.
His kind personality and love for animals are present in all his incarnations.
So I wanted to make a fanart showing that side of him, accompanied by his beloved skunk, Puppet.
Usually I sketch the whole body first, but on this occasion I added details as I sketched. Since I’ve been a fan of Shingo Araki’s style, his design wasn’t too difficult for me to draw.
I did the lineart with a G-Pen nib. I usually create retro-anime illustrations with pencil brush tools, but this time I wanted a more modern touch in the lineart.
Then I made the base layer before coloring. Sometimes I use a light color as a base, but when a character has light colors like white, I prefer a dark base to help spot empty areas or pixels left unfilled.
For the coloring, I used the original manga color palette. Scenes in Candy don’t have much shading, but since I’d done lineart with a more modern touch, I wanted to add more shadows than those typically used in those animes.
I painted the background with watercolor brushes. Even though I kept it simple because I wanted Albert and Puppet to be the focal points, I built the shrub in layers of color to give it more depth by using different tones for the leaves and drawing them with separate strokes.
And that’s how it turned out in the end:
Albert was a character I always loved and I had never made fanarts of him before. A friend wanted to see him in my style, so I went for it and I liked the final result. Maybe I’ll get excited and draw Terry too to see how he looks in my style. Any Terry fans here?
