Hi everyone

Here's another travel post! It's already been a while since I visited Kefalonia, but I didn't want to keep this beautiful Greek island from you all! I really had an amazing time at Kefalonia, so let me tell you something about my trip here.

Kefalonia is known for its beautiful beaches, charming villages, and the well-known Melissani cave. Kefalonia is the largest island of the Ionian Islands. The small villages surrounded by lush greenery, breathtaking landscapes, and great beaches make Kefalonia the perfect holiday destination for everyone. Whether you like an active holiday with mountain hikes, a wonderful beach holiday or rather hit the road and drive all around the island. Kefalonia is perfect for every kind of holiday. Because I like to see a lot in a small time I did the last thing and hit the road with a rental car. I was in Kefalonia for about 2 weeks and it's the perfect amount of time to get to see the whole island.

The most famous sights in Kefalonia are the Melissani cave, the cave of Drogarati, the lighthouse of Argostoli and the many beautiful beaches. The Melissani cave was discovered after the roof of the cave collapsed. The light on the blue water in the cave provides a unique play of colors that you should not miss. Because the cave is pretty famous, it was quite crowded and touristy. If you do not like this then it might be an idea to skip the cave.

The cave of Drogorati with its impressive stalagmites and stalactites is also worth a visit. It's pretty close to the Melissani cave and is a real relief in the warm summer because the temperature in the cave is around 18 degrees Celcius.

I stayed in an apartment in the capital of Kefalonia named Argostoli. A fun thing to do is to take a walk along the coast to the lighthouse of Argostoli. It's nice to start in the harbor in the morning. Here you can see the sea turtles every morning, who come to eat the residual waste from the fishermen.

Besides nice beautiful beaches and attractions, Kefalonia also has a number of beautiful villages. Some of the villages I really like were Assos, Fiskardo, and Sami. Assos and Fiskardo are both picturesque fishing villages with ports full of shops, restaurants, and terraces. Assos is built against a hill and lies between two bays. nearby you will find some great beaches, including the famous Myrtos beach. I really recommend going here early in the morning to beat the crowd and have a spot in the shadow. Then in the afternoon when it's getting hot you can visit the village and have some lunch.

Fiskardo is located in the north of the island and is probably my favorite. It has the largest port of the two fishermen villages. From here you have a good view of the neighboring island of Ithaca. In the cozy Sami you can take a day trip to Ithaka by boat. You will also find many restaurants and terraces on the coast. Near Sami you can find the beautiful beach of Antisamos and both the caves.
