Today's news on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in my RSS feed is dominated by news that President Trump declared a national emergency yesterday, and Pennsylvania has announced that all public schools in the state will be closed for two weeks, beginning on Monday, 3/16. Additionally, Philadelphia has banned gatherings of more than 1,000 people for a period of 30 days.
As a result of the ban, the Philadelphia Orchestra cancelled its planned celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday. We (@cmp2020, @lisa.palmer, and I) had been scheduled to see all 9 of the Beethoven's symphonies over the next 4 Sundays, but now all four performances fell inside the ban and got cancelled. As a consolation, however, the orchestra made a performance of Beethoven's 5th and 6th symphonies available on their web site and Facebook video. You may enjoy listening to it. Unfortunately, @steempeak doesn't recognize the Facebook embed code, or I would include it.
