A place where silence becomes architecture
The Colón Cemetery in Havana is not only a resting place but also an open-air museum. At its heart stands the chapel, a neo-Gothic jewel that seems to rise above marble and silence. Built in the late 19th century, this small temple of stone was conceived as the spiritual center of the cemetery, a space where light filters through stained glass and transforms mourning into contemplation.
Walking around it, one cannot help but admire the contrast: outside, the endless rows of tombs; inside, the solemn verticality of pointed arches and the stillness of prayer. It is a reminder that architecture, when done with devotion, becomes more than structure. It becomes memory carved in stone.

Un lugar donde el silencio se vuelve arquitectura
El Cementerio de Colón en La Habana no es solo un lugar de descanso, sino también un museo a cielo abierto. En su corazón se levanta la capilla, una joya neogótica que parece emerger entre el mármol y el silencio. Construida a finales del siglo XIX, este pequeño templo de piedra fue concebido como el centro espiritual del cementerio, un espacio donde la luz atraviesa los vitrales y transforma el duelo en contemplación.
Al caminar alrededor de ella, es imposible no admirar el contraste: afuera, las interminables hileras de tumbas; adentro, la solemne verticalidad de los arcos apuntados y la quietud de la oración.
