Greetings dear Hivers, lovers of the black and white community.
Last Wednesday, in Havana, the procession of the Virgen de las Mercedes took place. The attendance at the church that keeps her image was something hard to describe. Most of the people were dressed in white, and almost all of them carried flowers and candles to offer at her altar.
My friend @muhammadhalim encouraged me to participate in the celebration and capture some powerful shots. And he was absolutely right. The experience was wonderful, spectacular, and truly impactful; any adjective seems insufficient. A human tide overflowed the streets around the church and filled its interior. The faithful patiently waited in long lines to make their offerings, a gesture full of beauty and devotion.
This photo session was extensive and full of nuances. Today I share with you a small selection taken at the altar, where white flowers and candles were left, and where people asked the Virgin for her favors.

El pasado miércoles, en La Habana, tuvo lugar la procesión de la Virgen de las Mercedes. La asistencia a la iglesia que guarda su imagen fue algo difícil de describir. La mayoría de las personas vestían de blanco y casi todas llevaban flores y velas para ofrecerlas en su altar.
Mi amigo @muhammadhalim me animó a participar en la celebración y capturar algunas instantáneas de impacto. Y tenía toda la razón. La experiencia fue maravillosa, espectacular e impactante; cualquier adjetivo se queda corto. Un mar humano desbordaba las calles alrededor de la iglesia y llenaba su interior. Los feligreses esperaban pacientemente en largas filas para entregar sus ofrendas, un gesto lleno de belleza y devoción.
Esta sesión de fotos fue extensa y llena de matices. Hoy les comparto una pequeña selección realizada en el altar, donde se dejaban flores y velas blancas, y donde también se pedían los favores de la Virgen.
