A few days ago, I attended an event organized by @abelfotografia, called Safari Habana. But I’ll tell you more about the event another day — spoiler: it was amazing 👌
Today, I wanted to talk about the place itself. Located near the coast and full of services, 70 y 1ra Playa has probably become one of the most visited spots in Havana. It has always been a central area, but in recent years the government allowed private businesses to operate there, giving the place a completely new life.
Being close to several hotels, it also attracts many foreigners who come to enjoy its atmosphere and energy.
As a street photographer, I naturally focused on the people — what they were doing, how they moved, how they interacted with the space. A group of friends caught my attention; they seemed to be posing for a pencil portrait. Then I noticed a man — I suspect he’s not Cuban — who had an incredible aura. Those are the first three photos. After that, I observed others, people immersed in their routines, completely unaware of our presence.
From them comes this short series that I’m happy to share with you today. Here it is — tell me, have you visited this place? What do you think of it?

Hace unos días asistí al evento que organiza @abelfotografia, el Safari Habana. Pero de eso les hablaré con más detalle otro día —spoiler: fue genial 👌
Hoy quiero centrarme en el lugar. Cerca de la costa y con muchos servicios, 70 y 1ra Playa se ha convertido probablemente en uno de los sitios más concurridos de La Habana. Siempre fue una zona céntrica, pero desde hace algunos años el gobierno permitió que los privados pudieran ofrecer allí distintos servicios, lo que transformó completamente el ambiente.
Su cercanía a varios hoteles hace que también sea muy visitado por foráneos que disfrutan del sitio y su energía.
Yo, como buen fotógrafo callejero, no pude evitar fijarme en las personas que pasaban por allí: lo que hacían, cómo se movían, cómo interactuaban con el entorno. Me llamó la atención un grupo de amigas que parecía estar posando para un retrato a lápiz, y también un señor —sospecho que no es cubano— con un aura realmente especial. Son las tres primeras fotos. Luego, otros rostros, otras historias, personas que simplemente estaban en lo suyo, ajenas a nuestra presencia.
De ellos nace esta breve serie que hoy quiero compartirles. Aquí se las dejo, y díganme: ¿han visitado ese lugar?, ¿qué les parece?
