From Quake to Kindness: MERCY Malaysia's Mission to Bring Light Back to Children's Lives (Day 2)

I promised that I would post this yesterday, but I wasn’t able to because I got busy helping distribute food to the children. A kind sponsor gave us food to share, and it felt nice seeing the kids happy and full. After that, I also had a band performance in the evening, so I didn’t have time to write. But now that I finally can, I want to share how special this second day was.

Just like Day 1, I was again one of the leaders for our Zumba activity. The moment the music started, the children immediately came alive. They were laughing, jumping, and dancing with so much energy. Some of them were a little shy at first, but after a few minutes, everyone joined in. Seeing their big smiles while dancing made me feel so happy and proud. For a while, it felt like all their worries were gone — replaced by joy, laughter, and music.

After Zumba, I was assigned again to the group of children aged seven and above. We started our session with a Q&A game, where we asked them some fun and simple questions to help them feel more comfortable. They were all very cooperative and excited to answer. After that, we played Stop Dance, and everyone burst into laughter every time the music stopped.

Next was the Chair Dance, where they had to sit as fast as they could when the music paused — it was so funny watching them rush to grab a seat! Then our last game was Pass the Ball, where whoever got the ball had to answer a question. It was lively, noisy, and full of joy. I loved watching the kids enjoy themselves so freely.

When all the games were done, we took a few minutes to talk to the children. We asked them what they learned from the activities, and their answers were simple but meaningful. Some said they learned how to cooperate with others, some said they were happy to play and dance, and one even said they learned that helping each other makes things easier. Hearing those words made me realize how much children can understand, even from small activities like ours.

Before we ended the day, we all sang and danced together for our closing activity. Everyone was smiling, clapping, and singing loudly. The atmosphere was filled with happiness and warmth. It was such a beautiful way to end the day.

This second day made me realize once again that kindness and healing can come from the simplest things. You don’t always need to do something big to make a difference — sometimes, just being there, dancing, playing, or listening is already enough. As a Psychology student, I learned that connecting with others and showing care can help heal hearts in ways we may not even realize.
