Wedding in black and white for the #monamad challenge

Every wedding is a universe of its own. No matter how many times I’ve had the chance to document one, it always feels like the first: the mix of nerves, emotion, and responsibility is still there, unchanged. These images belong to my fourth wedding of 2025, and although I’m gaining experience, I’m convinced that this type of photography will always challenge both my technique and my sensitivity.

The hardest part is finding the right balance between the spontaneous and the artistic. It’s not just about recording what happens, but about doing it with a visual language that carries genuine emotions. For this wedding I worked with my Canon 5D Mark III, switching between a Canon 50mm f1.8, a Praktica 135mm, and a Helios, each one giving me different moods: • The 50mm allowed me to get close to the intimacy of the couple and capture their natural expressions with soft bokeh. • The Praktica 135mm gave me distance and compression, perfect for ceremonial scenes where I needed to stay discreet. • The Helios, with its unique character, was my tool to play with creative blur and more artistic atmospheres.

Choosing black and white was intentional. Stripping away color forces me to work with light, shadow, texture, and gesture, making pure emotion the true protagonist. The couple’s shared smiles, the silence before the vows, the detail of a bouquet that speaks on its own… every image breathes life through simplicity.

Technically, it’s demanding. Using manual lenses means there’s no room for error in moments that will never repeat. You must anticipate, read the scene, and shoot with confidence. But that same challenge keeps me fully present and connected with the story I’m telling.

In the end, what remains are not just photographs, but memories turned into visual legacy. That is the greatest reward of this craft: knowing that years from now, when this couple looks back at these images, they won’t just see what happened, they’ll feel it all over again.

Every wedding reminds me that photography is not only a craft or an art. It is also testimony, a way of giving eternity to the fleeting.
