I checked the other counter, and that was when it happened. A sharp scream tore out of me before I could stop it. Sitting there, bold as anything, was a rat. My whole body shivered. I hate rats a lot. I don’t care how small they are, they always manage to make me feel like the room isn’t mine anymore.
The little creature froze for a second, its beady eyes glinting at me like it had caught me trespassing. Then it darted away, tail trailing behind it, leaving me with a pounding heart and a disgust I couldn’t shake off.
I stood there, still catching my breath, vowing silently that the kitchen was going to war that day. If the rat thought it could claim my counter, it had chosen the wrong person to mess with.
