Initially, when I used to make my hair, the experience always came with a lot of discomfort. Sitting down for hours while my hair was being plaited was not only tiring but also painful. The tightness of the braids sometimes gave me headaches, and even after the making, the struggle did not end there. At night, before sleeping, I would either have to carefully unpack my hair or cover it with a hair net just to keep it neat. It felt like an endless cycle of pain and maintenance.
But the day I decided to barb my hair was the day I truly got liberated.
No more worries about packing and unpacking, no more hair nets before bedtime, no more hours of sitting and enduring the pain of plaiting. I suddenly felt light, free, and comfortable. For me, it wasn’t just cutting my hair, it was freedom from all the discomfort that came with it.
