How does curation work on Hive?

The term curation refers to the way of valuing content in the Hive platform. In other words, the platform rewards you for discovering and voting quality content inside the Hive blockchain. These curation rewards are also mentioned as rewards for consuming content.

One of the most attractive features in the Hive ecosystem is that it rewards you both passively and actively. If you are holding your HIVE coins in the form of Hivepower, it will automatically increase by about ~3% annually. Besides, the active rewards are obtained by performing content curation (upvoting / giving likes, to the publications), where the average earnings are about 10% annually. The curation rewards will be added to your wallet in the form of Hivepower.

The more Hivepower you accumulate, the greater your curation rewards will be.

Basic rules about Hive Curation

Author/curator (50/50): The authors get 50% of the profits, and the other 50% is distributed among the curators of each publication. In the image on the right, I show you how the rewards were distributed after the payout of a publication. You can see it in hive.blog.
Votes before 5 minutes: It was established that you have to wait at least 5 minutes to upvote for a publication to avoid instantaneously voting (to prevent SPAM) and also having time to read it. In case you vote before 5 min you are penalized in your curation rewards:

If you vote at minute 5: You will get 100% of your curation reward. If you vote at minute 4: You will get 80% of your curation reward. If you vote at minute 3: You will get 60% of your curation reward. If you vote at minute 2: You will get 40% of your curation reward. If you vote at minute 1: You will get 20% of your curation reward. If you vote at minute 0: You will get 0% of your curation reward.

Many other parameters influence the curation rewards; if you like to learn more about it, you can read this publication.

Avoid selfvoting: Excessive self-voting is considered as an abuse in the Hive platform. So, it is recommended that you distribute your votes among original content creators who bring value to Hive.

What are the limits of curation?

Expiration time for publications: You can curate a publication during the first 7 days, and after that time, the author will not receive rewards for your upvote, nor will you earn rewards for curating.
Use your voting power efficiently: In the Hive blockchain, the number of votes is limited. It is recommended that you use the votes you have available daily. Maybe you're wondering how many votes I have available? To understand this, we must know that the voting power regenerates at a rate of 20% per day and that each 100% upvote consumes 2% of your voting power. Therefore, you could vote for 10 daily posts at 100% or vote for posts with a lower percentage. For example, you can vote for 20 posts at 50%, 40 posts at 25%, and so on. The best advice I can give you is to be aware of your voting power before curing publications.

Note: I recommend you to observe your level of voting power frequently in hiveblocks or hive-now by replacing my Hive username with yours.

Where do I check the rewards I'm getting for curating?

There are some tools to verify our curation rewards, such as beeme.icu and hivestats.io, but perhaps the best known at the moment is https://beeme.icu/?account=ritch. Whereby changing the username at the end you can see the statistics of your Hive account. The following image shows the rewards that received the Alebrijes community for curating publications in the last 7 days, 1 month, and the total.

¿Qué es la curación en Hive?

El término curación se refiere a la forma de valorar contenido dentro de la plataforma Hive. Es decir, la plataforma te recompensa por descubrir y votar contenido de calidad dentro de la cadena de bloques de Hive. Dichas recompensas de curación también son denominadas como recompensas por consumir contenido.

Una de las características más atractivas del ecosistema Hive es que te recompensa de forma pasiva y activa. Simplemente al mantener tus criptomonedas HIVE en forma de Hivepower, este incrementará automáticamente alrededor de ~3% anualmente. Por otro lado, los ingresos activos los obtendrás al realizar curación de contenido (votar / dar like, a las publicaciones), en donde las ganancias promedio son ≥10%. Las recompensas curación se te acreditarán en forma de Hivepower.

Entre más Hivepower acumules, mayores serán tus recompensas de curación.

Reglas básicas sobre la curación en Hive

Autor/curador (50/50): Los autores obtienen el 50% de las ganancias y el otro 50% se distribuye entre los curadores de cada publicación. En la imagen de la derecha te muestro como se distribuyeron las recompensas de una publicación que ya expiró. Lo puedes ver al final de las publicaciones en hive.blog.
Ventana de los 5 minutos: Se estableció que hay que esperar al menos 5 minutos para votar una publicación para evitar que votes instantáneamente (para prevenir el SPAM) y que además tengas tiempo de leerla. En el caso de que votes antes eres penalizado en las ganancias por curación de la siguiente forma:

Si votas al minuto 5: Recibes el 100% de tu recompensa por curación. Si votas al minuto 4: Recibes el 80% de tu recompensa por curación. Si votas al minuto 3: Recibes el 60% de tu recompensa por curación. Si votas al minuto 2: Recibes el 40% de tu recompensa por curación. Si votas al minuto 1: Recibes el 20% de tu recompensa por curación. Si votas al minuto 0: Recibes el 0% de tu recompensa por curación.

Hay muchos otros parámetros que influyen en las recompensas de la curación, si quieres aprender más sobre ello puedes leer esta publicación.

Evita autovotarte: El autovotarse excesivamente es considerado como abuso dentro de la plataforma. Por lo que se recomienda que distribuyas tus votos entre creadores de contenido original que aporten valor a la plataforma Hive.

¿Cuáles son los límites de la curación?

Tiempo de expiración de las publicaciones: El periodo en que puedes curar una publicación es de 7 días, ya que después de ese tiempo el autor no recibirá recompensas por tu voto ni tu recibirás recompensas por curación.
Usa tu poder de voto eficientemente: En Hive, la cantidad de votos es limitada. Se recomienda usar los votos que tienes disponibles a diario. Quizás te estés preguntando ¿cuántos votos tengo disponibles? Para entender esto debemos saber que el poder de voto se regenera a una velocidad de 20% diario y que cada voto al 100% consume el 2% de tu poder de voto. Por lo tanto, podrías votar 10 publicaciones diarias al 100% o votar posts con un menor porcentaje, por ejemplo, puedes votar 20 publicaciones al 50%, 40 publicaciones al 25% y así sucesivamente. El mejor consejo que te puedo dar es que estés atento a tu poder de voto antes de curar publicaciones.

Nota: Te recomiendo que estés revisando constantemente tu nivel de poder de voto en hiveblocks o en hive-now reemplazando mi nombre de usuario en Hive por el tuyo.

¿Dónde verifico las recompensas que estoy recibiendo por curación?

Existen algunas herramientas para verificar nuestras recompensas por curación como beeme.icu y hivestats.io, pero quizás la más conocida al momento es: beeme.icu. En donde al cambiar el nombre de usuario al final podrás ver las estadísticas de tu cuenta de Hive. En la siguiente imagen se observan las recompensas ha recibido la Comunidad Alebrijes por curar publicaciones en los últimos 7 días, 1 mes y en total.
