It is part of our obligation as christians to look into the welfare of our brethren. We have to be compassionate.
Galatians 6:2 says;
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
According to 1 John 3:17;
If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
Compassion is the reflection of Christ’s love in us. Just as Jesus was moved with compassion to heal, feed, and comfort, we are called to care for the welfare of our brethren—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
As Christians, we are not called to live only for ourselves. The love of Christ compels us to care for others. Compassion is not just an act of kindness, but an obligation laid on us by God.
Matthew 14:14;
When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Mark 8:2;
I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat.
If Christ, our Master, was moved with compassion, then we as His disciples must do the same.
1 John 3:17;
But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?”
Compassion is not weakness; it is strength. It is not optional; it is an obligation. To be compassionate is to be Christlike. When we care for our brethren, we fulfill the law of Christ, prove the love of God within us, and lay up eternal treasures for ourselves in heaven.
