Paying of tithes is not an old testament thing neither is it a new testament thing, it is a God thing. Whatever we give to God, He gives us a return. Whatever we invest with God, there's a resultant abundance.

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

The principal is that when you give, it comes back to you in abundance.

Tithing was Israel’s covenant obligation; giving under grace (Luke 6:38) is every believer’s privilege.

Deut. 14:28–29

At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates: And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

Malachi 3:8

Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

Malachi teaches the seriousness of honoring God with our resources.

Though it is not a direct command for Christians to pay Old Covenant tithes but rather, it inspires us to give generously, willingly, and faithfully—trusting God to bless us as He promised.

For God loves a cheerful giver.
