Our second day at Zhangjiajie! Again, the alarm rings very early, but this time we drive to another entrance of the park (luoguta ticket station). This is quite far away from our accommodation, and at first, we are not sure when to get off the bus. Fortunately, an older man in the bus helps us: He is super friendly and gives us to understand when we have to get off.
With that help, we arrive without problems at the desired stop and are the park quite soon.

The landscape before us is once again amazing.
We start our hike - we have 3100 steps to get up to the Golden Rock Village.
And yes, as you can imagine: It was exhausting! Our thighs startet burning at the latest after step 2000 ;-)

But the landscape that stretches out to us after 1.5 hours of walking is worth it, right?
In addition, we hardly encounter a human soul during the entire ascent. Thus, we enjoyed the peace and the beautiful forest and the rock pillars.
Once we arrive at the so-called Golden Rock Village, we make a loop-walk. There is a bit more going on on these paths, but it is not comparable to the crowds at Tianzi Mountain!
The breath-taking panorama will soon be joined by another attraction:
Wild monkeys in the trees!
A whole crowd of monkeys seems to be at home here in this area. The monkeys jump from branch to branch, delousing each other or frolicking around.
We take our time to watch the skilled climbers. This is the first time we see monkeys in the wild! Especially the big males look a bit frightening. A monkey even gets bit aggressive when a teenager gets too close to him- he bares his teeth and reaches for the boy's cell phone. Get away, dude! we think.
Hiking in the Golden Rock Village
After we have finished the loop and are back at the starting point, we make our way down. Yes,, this time, it's 3100 steps down ;-)
Once back at the bottom, we walk along the Golden Whip Stream.
Here, the landscape is not quite as impressive as before, but it is still a beautiful path right along the river.
As soon as we arrive near the bus station, there is suddenly a lot going on:

We are happy that today, we didn’t have any the hustle and bustle on the hike. Quite exhausted, we get on the bus for our way home. We can hardly believe what incredible landscapes we have seen so far in Zhangjiajie National Park. It's really a bit like being in a parallel universe of Avatar ...

Noch mehr sagenhafte Landschaften und turnende Äffchen
Unser zweiter Tag im Zhangjiajie! Erneut klingelt der Wecker sehr früh, dieses Mal fahren wir aber zu einem anderen Eingang des Parks (luoguta ticket station). Dieser ist recht weit entfern von unserer Unterkunft, anfangs wissen wir nicht so recht, wann wir aussteigen müssen – ein älterer Herr kommt uns aber schnell zur Hilfe. Er ist super freundlich und gibt uns mit Händen und Füßen zu verstehen, wann wir aussteigen müssen. So kommen wir ohne Probleme an die gewünschte Haltestelle und sind ruck-zuck im Park.

Die Landschaft, die sich uns bietet, ist von der ersten Minute an wieder sagenhaft.
Wir starten unsere Wanderung – es stehen uns 3100 Stufen bis zum Golden Rock Village bevor.
Und ja, wie ihr euch denken könnt: Es war anstrengend! Unsere Oberschenkel haben sich spätestens nach Stufe 2000 gemeldet ;-)
Wanderweg am Fels entlang
Aber die Aussicht, die sich nach 1,5 h Stufen laufen vor uns erstreckt, ist es allemal wert, oder?
Außerdem begegnen wir während des gesamten Aufstiegs kaum einer Menschenseele. Somit genossen wir die Ruhe und den wunderschönen Wald sowie die Felssäulen.
Oben am sogenannten Golden Rock Village angekommen, machen wir einen Rundwanderweg. Auf diesen Wegen ist etwas mehr los, allerdings ist es kein Vergleich zu den Menschenmengen am Tianzi Berg!
Zu dem atemberaubenden Panorama gesellt sich bald eine weitere Attraktion:
Wilde Affen in den Bäumen!
Eine ganze Affenschar scheint hier in dieser Gegend zuhause zu sein. Die Affen springen munter von Ast zu Ast, lausen sich gegenseitig oder tollen umher.
Vergnügt beobachten wir die geschickten Kletterer. Das ist das erste Mal, dass wir Affen in freier Wildbahn sehen! Gerade die großen Männchen sehen teilweise aber auch etwas angsteinflößen aus. Ein Affe wird sogar aggressiv, als ein Teenager ihm zu nahe kommt – er fletscht die Zähne und greift nach dem Handy des Jungen. Schnell weg, denken wir da nur!

Nachdem wir den Loop beendet haben und wieder am Startpunkt sind, machen wir uns auf den Weg nach unten. Genau, dieses Mal sind es 3100 Stufen abwärts ;-)
Unten angekommen laufen wir nun den Golden Whip Stream entlang.
Hier ist die Landschaft nicht mehr ganz so imposant wie bisher, aber dennoch ist es ein schöner Weg direkt am Fluss entlang.
Sobald wir in der Nähe der Busstation ankommen, ist plötzlich wieder unglaublich viel los:

Wir sind glücklich, dass wir heute auf der Wanderung von diesem Trubel verschon geblieben wurden und machen und erschöpft auf den Heimweg. Wir können es kaum fassen, was für unglaubliche Landschaften wir im Zhangjiajie-Nationalpark bisher gesehen haben. Es ist wirklich ein bisschen wie in einem parallel-Universum von Avatar…
