Been working on the west coast of Florida for the past week and a half on a TEM install. Since I was here through the long weekend I decided to take a trip and visit an old friend Zane who moved to Orlando a little over a year ago with his wife. He suggested we check out Aku Aku, and since I have a thing for Tiki bars as much as punk rock dives, I was pretty eager to go.
Well, I was not disappointed one bit! The decor in the place was brilliant, I especially liked the Mo'ai, an excellent touch. They served their drinks in Tiki cups of course! I opted for a less sugary option, which was an old fashioned made with coconut infused rum that was just delicious. The bar back had the right esthetic, I dont know why but that's something that I think is important.
I think what I like about the place the most was the collection decorations. A particularly like the Mo'ai drawing with the smoking fish :-).
The carved ship adds a nice touch.
Volcano in the fish tank, love it! Suspect I will see more of those in other Tiki places.
I highly recommend checking this place out if your are in downtown Orlando. Be sure to try the coconut infused rum!
