Hello, Foodies Bee Hive friends! Today I want to share with you a review of a place that has gradually become popular in my city of Maracay, in the state of Aragua, Venezuela, specifically on the ground floor of the Unicentro Shopping Center, located between Casanova Godoy Avenue and Los 3 Mosqueteros street. It is a stand selling jojotos or elotes, as they are called in other countries, known as Elotes El Macho.
In case you're wondering, a jojoto is a tender corn cob with a slightly sweet and delicious flavor. Here in Venezuela, this variety of corn is often used in soups and also to prepare the famous Cachapas (a sort of corn pancake), but this food stand, inspired by Mexican gastronomic culture, is dedicated to selling this delicacy on the cob with various toppings or shelled, for the delight of many; the latter is known as esquite and is served in cups.
On my recent visit, I chose a Doriloco and my companion chose a Lupita esquite. The Doriloco includes the typical Doritos brand nachos, shelled corn, fresh cheese, Greek yogurt, paprika, tajin, bacon, and finely chopped chives to top it off.
The Lupita esquite has shelled corn, butter, sour cream, Greek yogurt, paprika, tajín, parsley, and Parmesan cheese. Each one cost $5, and having tried both, I can tell you that they are worth it, especially because of the generous amount of Parmesan cheese they put on the esquites and the generous portions in general.
I hope to return to try other varieties that Elotes El Macho offers its customers. If you are in Maracay and have the opportunity, be sure to stop by this food stand with its Mexican atmosphere and gastronomy. I highly recommend it.
