Hello, friends of The Anime Realm! On this occasion, as on many others, it is my pleasure to share with you a review of an anime. In this case, it is one that was recommended to me on a list of anime similar to Kimetsu no Yaiba, and I wanted to give it a try, especially because samurai and period anime really appeal to me.
This work is based on a series of Japanese historical fantasy light novels written by Moto'o Nakanishi and illustrated by Tamaki, later adapted into manga and anime, a format in which it began airing this year, 2025. The story is set in Japan's Edo period, with jumps to other periods and even the present day, which makes it very interesting.

En esta ocasión como en muchas otras es un placer compartir con ustedes una reseña sobre un anime, en este caso se trata de uno que me recomendaron en una lista de animes con algún parecido a Kimetsu no Yaiba y quise darle una oportunidad, sobre todo porque los animes de samuráis y de época llaman mucho mi atención.
Esta obra está basada en una serie de novelas ligeras de fantasía histórica japonesa escrita por Moto'o Nakanishi e ilustrada por Tamaki, adaptada posteriormente al manga y al anime, formato en el cual se empezó a emitir este mismo año 2025. La historia está ambientada en el periodo Edo de Japón, con saltos a otros periodos e incluso a la época actual, lo cual la hace muy interesante.
In general terms, we can say that the plot revolves around Miyaka, an ordinary young girl who lives with her family in a Shinto temple and is destined to become the new Itsukihime, the priestess of the temple and the village, as it is an ancestral family tradition. However, she would prefer to have a normal life, which is a flashforward from the present day, as the anime spans several eras. One day, while she is at the temple, a boy who turns out to be the main character approaches her dressed in the uniform of the school she also attends. The boy comes from the past, specifically 170 years ago, with a mission, so he has waited patiently for the years to pass and is excited to see that this girl will be the next priestess.
The story begins in the past when the Itsukihime existed, who was then the love interest of the protagonist, and when this honorary position of priestess had a predominant significance among the population. At that time, demonic entities occasionally ravaged the region, and there had to be guardians of both the priestess and the general population. Our protagonist, Jinta, later renamed Jinya, is precisely the main guardian of the temple.
De la trama en términos generales podemos decir que la joven Miyaka, una chica común y corriente que vive con su familia en un templo sintoísta está destinada a convertirse en la nueva itsukihime, la sacerdotisa del tempo y del poblado, ya que es una tradición familiar ancestral, aunque ella preferiría tener una vida normal, esto como flashforward de la época actual, ya que el anime transita por varias épocas. Un día, mientras ella se encuentra en el templo, un chico que resulta ser el protagonista principal se acerca a ella vestido con el uniforme del colegio al que ella también va. El chico viene del pasado, específicamente 170 años atrás con una misión por lo que ha esperado pacientemente el trascurso de los años y se emociona al ver que esta chica será la próxima sacerdotisa.
En si la historia comienza en la época pasada cuando existía la itsukihime que sería en ese entonces interés amoroso del protagonista y cuando este cargo honorifico de sacerdotisa si tenía un significado predominante en la población. En ese entonces entes demoniacos azotaban de vez en cuando la región y debía haber guardianes tanto de la sacerdotisa como de la población en general. Nuestro protagonista Jinta, luego renombrado Jinya es precisamente el guardián principal del templo.
It should be noted that the opening episode lasts almost an hour, as it seeks to tell the entire backstory, that is, what leads Jinya to become a demon hunter with unique characteristics and to take on the mission of defeating a demon god who is prophesied to appear in the future and with whom he has his own personal reasons for seeking revenge. However, there are many conflicting feelings that will make his mission a very complex task.
Admittedly, the story does slow down a bit at one point, but this may be necessary to provide the viewer with more context, along with the development of simultaneous storylines that are not necessarily related to the main plot but give the series touches of action and a better understanding of Jinya's abilities and how his character grows. I invite you to watch this series with patience and an open mind, without despairing in the search for a quick resolution, and I also urge you to discover how Jinya is able to appear in different past eras as well as in the present. Cabe resaltar que el capítulo inicial dura casi una hora, ya que busca contar toda la historia de base, es decir lo que lleva a Jinya a convertirse en un cazador de demonios con características particulares y a adquirir la misión de derrotar a un dios demonio que se profetiza aparecerá en el futuro y con el cual él tiene sus propias razones personales para cobrar venganza, sin embargo, hay muchos sentimientos encontrados que harán que su misión sea una tarea muy compleja.
Hay que admitir que la historia en un punto se hace un poco lenta, pero esto podría ser necesario para ofrecer al espectador más contexto, a la par del desarrollo de historias simultaneas que no tienen que ver necesariamente con la trama principal pero que le dan a la serie toques de acción y un mejor entendimiento de las habilidades de Jinya y de cómo se va desenvolviendo su personaje. Los invito a ver esta serie con paciencia y una mente abierta, sin desesperar en la búsqueda de un desenlace rápido, así como también los exhorto a descubrir cómo es que Jinya es capaz de aparecer en diferentes épocas pasadas y también en la actualidad.
