Once -some time ago- I saw in a documentary on television, an interview with a great Cuban artist (now physically disappeared) whom I admire very much. He was one of the first to mix with success our wonderful Afro-Cuban music with Jazz and contemporary music. Everything he did was based on research, innovation and discovery. I am referring to Sergio Vitier, an excellent musician, guitarist and composer of classical training, and coming from a renowned family of Cuban intellectuals, poets and essayists; like his father Cintio Vitier and his mother Fina García Marrúz.

📚📖📚

In the aforementioned interview, he talks about his musical work, culture in general and what he thought about art; and he said among other interesting things, a phrase that marked me deeply for the rest of my life —In any artistic manifestation there must be poetry, poetry always has to be present in some way ... and if it is not so; throw it away... that is shit.

👍👏👏👏👍

And I am convinced and totally agree with the master Sergio Vitier; that yes, that the poetic imprint in every artistic manifestation is what has always defined what will last in time and makes the difference between true art and entertainment or fatuous and inconsequential fashion, which from the beginning has been able to flood the conventional mass media and where "if it sells or not".... "if it sticks or not"... is unfortunately the only thing that matters to them 😥. It really is very sad that things work that way, if we continue like this, a few years from now - who are going to be the cultural and artistic references for future generations... Bad Bunny, Chocolate MC... artificial intelligence...?

😲🥺😢

I have never in my life been able to paint, draw or take a worthwhile photo, which does not make me incapable of feeling emotion when I can appreciate how art becomes present in a painting, or a photo taken with the heart, making me an accomplice of that unique instant where poetry and the creator irreversibly fused.

The grace or body intelligence to dance is not one of my qualities either, but I can discover observing the sublime in each movement, in each gesture and intention, I give the example of this folkloric dancer interpreting Yemayá -Orisha who represents the owner and mistress of the sea in the Yoruba religion- highlighting in her intense blue that poetic force that inhabits the dance when it is really genuine.

In my artistic world, as a poet and songwriter...I try to embellish with words a musical idea 🎼🎶, and so I take the opportunity to tell a story that makes us reflect on life and its eternal dilemmas. And when the magic of poetry happens, I feel the sincerity of that moment through my tears, it's like a warning that I finally made it, after being a while battling between words and sounds, it's like that. When "the muses come down" a tear slides down my cheek and that is where I smile with satisfaction, because this birth is not something easy, nor is it always achieved. That is why I do not like to force it, nor have I ever tried to turn it into a profession. I can only tell you that you have to be very aligned with the universe... so that it grants you its grace, its benevolence... its poetry.

❤️💚💙
