Touring the city center (Eng/Esp)

My wife often complains about the time I spend doing simple errands, so I invited her to come with me and clear up her doubts. On this occasion, the mission was to get a copy of a key and ask about the price of a can of liquid membrane to waterproof the roof.  So we began our pilgrimage through the hardware stores located in the city center. What she didn't like was that, beyond asking about what we needed, I spent more time looking at the tools and materials that were for sale. It's amazing how things have changed, with plastic now being the most widely used raw material for manufacturing tools.  After walking for over an hour, we found a place where they could make a copy of the key we needed. My wife realized that although there are many places that make key copies, it all depends on the brand and model of the original because not all machines are the same. The last time I did a similar task, I took the key and the cylinder with me to test the copy at the same place and avoid any subsequent inconvenience if the key did not turn smoothly.  During this tour, we were struck by a sculpture located at the entrance to a new branch of Crab Bay Hardware. We took the opportunity to ask about waterproofing options, and they offered us epoxy and elastomeric paint, which is a good option, but only when painting over a surface that has been previously treated with a coating.  This task is not easy because not all salespeople are qualified to give their opinion on the work to be done on a roof that requires insulation against heat and humidity. The roof of the house has conventional asphalt roofing, which is applied with a blowtorch, and is covered with aluminized paint. This work has lost its effectiveness over time, which is why we are looking into alternatives. After a long walk, we returned with several estimates that we must analyze because not all the answers to our questions pointed in the same direction.

Mi esposa suele quejarse por el tiempo que suelo invertir para realizar una simple diligencia, así que la invité para que me acompañara y despejar sus dudas. En esta ocasión la misión era sacar una copia de una llave y preguntar por el precio de un cuñete de manto líquido para impermeabilizar el techo.  Así que empezamos el peregrinaje por las ferreterías ubicadas en el centro de la ciudad. Lo que a ella no le gustó es que más allá de preguntar por lo que necesitábamos yo me quedaba más tiempo observando las herramientas y los materiales que estaban a la venta. Es impresionante cómo han cambiado las cosas, siendo el plástico la materia prima más utilizada para la fabricación de herramientas.  Tras caminar durante más de una hora pudimos encontrar un lugar donde podían sacar la copia de la llave que requeríamos, mi esposa cayó en cuenta que si bien hay muchos lugares que sacan copias de llave, todo depende de la marca y del modelo de la original porque no todas las máquinas son iguales, inclusive la última vez que realicé una misión similar llevé la llave y el cilindro para probar la copia en el mismo lugar y evitar posteriores molestias, en caso de no girar la llave con soltura.  En este recorrido nos llamó la atención una escultura ubicada en la entrada de una nueva sucursal de la Ferretería Crab Bay. Aprovechamos la ocasión para preguntar por las opciones de impermeabilización y allí nos ofrecieron pintura epóxica y elastomérica, lo cual constituye una buena opción, pero cuando se pinta sobre una superficie previamente tratada con un manto.  Esta diligencia no es fácil porque no todos los vendedores están capacitados para opinar sobre el trabajo a realizarse en un techo que requiera aislamiento contra el calor y la humedad. El techo de la casa posee el manto asfáltico convencional, el que se adhiere con soplete, y sobre él se cubrió con pintura aluminizada. Ese trabajo ha perdido efectividad con el tiempo y por tal razón investigamos alternativas. Tras realizar un larga caminata retornamos con varios presupuestos que debemos analizar porque no todas las respuestas a nuestras dudas apuntaban a una misma dirección.
