Rum Museum Santiago de Cuba / Museo del Ron Santiago de Cuba

Hello dear travelers. Today I want to tell you about my visit to the Santiago Rum Museum.

This is one of the places I was not aware of that was in my province. I visited it with three university classmates because we had a job that although it has nothing to do with rum itself, much of the history of this liquid would help us for the History of Cuba. We start the tour from the Céspedes Park.

As the only thing we knew about the Museum was that it was located near the Bay of Santiago, we went through some streets to find the place. Surprisingly, I had not traveled through many of the streets that led to the place either. Of what I was missing because the views they offer are incredible.

The first instance of the museum is too cozy. The welcome you give to your visitors can exceed the highest expectations. There are a few very comfortable armchairs, many murals and a model that help you contextualize and extrapolate the incredible world that the history of Rum tells you.

The next instance is loaded with history. It tells how the beginnings of rum were in Cuba. This is the part that interested us the most because as we were teaching in classes the conquest and the whole Passage of the Spaniards through the island this museum would clarify one of the many Spanish traces that are still in Cuba. Rum is made through spirits, these come from molasses and this one from sugar cane brought by Christopher Columbus on his second trip to America.

Although this room is small, there are a few instruments in it, not to say all those used by the slaves for the extraction of molasses.

In another room are exhibited some of the many brands of rum that the factory has produced, because, this museum is also a rum factory. Further back there is a wall that shows the process through which the different raw materials passed to obtain the desired rum.

On another of the walls there are several of the personalities who participated directly and indirectly in the first steps of the liquid. Among them Facundo Bacardi father and the son of the same name caught my attention, these with surnames of renown in the history of Santiago and of course a female figure that although unknown until that moment it is always a pleasure to see women among men.

The last sale is divided into several parts. The first one shows other of the many instruments they used, these most striking and from my point of view, sophisticated.

The other part is filled with many barrels. This is a wonder, I felt like I was in a warehouse of those that I see daily in the movies. The barrels piled up there give the place a unique touch.

And the final part has a display case with many rums, it has a representation of each rum that was produced on the commemorative dates of Santiago. There is a very curious one that has a stamp from the university where I study because it was in his honor. In this part the rums are tasted, the people who were on the tour with us were French and they were the ones who could taste, we being students and not having paid the full entrance could not.

The last part they showed us was the current factory where they manufacture all the rum that is distributed in the city and which they usually sell in a bar that is next to the factory museum. There was little lighting because it wasn't working that day but I still wanted to immortalize it through a panoramic view.

The museum is great and it's amazing how you can travel being in it. Every detail you have is perfectly placed. If anyone comes to Santiago do not hesitate to visit him.

Hola queridos viajeros. Hoy les quiero contar sobre mi visita al Museo del Ron Santiago.

Este es uno de los sitios de los que no tenía conocimiento que estuviese en mi provincia. Lo visité junto a tres compañeras de Universidad porque teníamos un trabajo que si bien no tiene que ver con el Ron en sí, gran parte de la historia de este líquido nos ayudaría para Historia de Cuba. Iniciamos el recorrido desde el Parque Céspedes.

Cómo lo único que sabíamos del Museo era que se ubica próximo a la Bahía de Santiago, fuimos atravesando algunas calles para poder dar con el lugar. Asombrosamente tampoco había transitado por muchas de las calles que llevaban al lugar. De lo que me perdía porque las vistas que ellas ofrecen son increíbles.

La primera instancia del museo es demasiado acogedora. La bienvenida que da a sus visitantes puede superar las más altas expectativas. Hay unos cuantos sillones muy cómodos, muchos murales y una maqueta que te ayudan a contextualizarte y extrapolar el increíble mundo que te cuenta la historia del Ron.

La siguiente instancia está cargada de historia. Cuenta cómo fueron los inicios del Ron en Cuba. Esta es la parte que más nos interesaba porque como estábamos dando en clases la conquista y todo El Paso de los españoles por la isla este museo esclarecería una de las tantas huellas españolas que aún están en Cuba. El ron es elaborado a través de los aguardientes, estos vienen de la melaza y esta de la caña de azúcar traída por Cristóbal Colón en su segundo viaje a América.

Pese a que esta sala es pequeña en ella están unos cuantos instrumentos, por no decir que todos los utilizados por los esclavos para la extracción de la melaza.

En otra sala se exhiben algunas de las tantas marcas de ron que ha producido la fábrica, porque, este museo es también fábrica de ron. Más atrás está una pared que muestra el proceso por el cual pasaban las distintas materias primas para obtener el deseado ron.

En otra de las paredes presentan varias de las personalidades que participaron de forma directa e indirecta en los primeros pasos del líquido. Entre ellos me llamaron la atención Facundo Bacardí padre y el hijo del mismo nombre, estos con apellidos de renombre en la historia santiaguera y por supuesto una figura femenina que aunque desconocida hasta ese momento siempre es un placer ver mujeres entre hombres.

La última sale se divide en varias partes. La primera muestra otros de los tantos instrumentos que utilizaban, estos más llamativos y desde mi punto de vista, sofisticados.

La otra parte está repleta de muchos barriles. Esta es una maravilla, me sentí como si estuviera en un almacén de esos que veo a diario en las películas. Los barriles amontonados allí dan al lugar un toque único.

Y la parte final tiene una vitrina con muchos rones, posee una representación de cada ron que se produjo en las fechas conmemorativas de Santiago. Hay uno muy curioso que tiene un sello de la Universidad en la que estudio porque fue en su honor. En esta parte se degustan los rones, las personas que estaban en el recorrido con nosotras eran franceses y ellos fueron los que pudieron probar, nosotras al ser estudiantes y no haber pagado la entrada completa no pudimos.

La última parte que nos mostraron fue la actual fábrica donde fabrican todo el ron que se distribuye en la ciudad y el cual venden de forma habitual en un bar que está al lado del museo fábrica. Había poca iluminación porque no ese día no estaba funcionando pero igual quise inmortalizar a través de una panorámica.

El museo está genial y es increíble cómo puedes viajar estando en él. Cada detalle que tiene está perfectamente colocado. Si alguno viene a Santiago no dude en visitarlo.
