TYPICAL RURAL EXPERIENCE

In all my travels to different places, communities, villages and even towns for work purposes, I have not come across a place that frustrated me like where I just left. 3 weeks ago I was assigned to go and aid a colleague of mine and assist him in managing a particular site at a very remote village, when I say very, I mean typical village where there are no much population and majority of the people there are farmers and a few percentage of them are traders who trade different things.

I love the work I do but I hate it when I get too frustrated without any way out and that was my experience for this past 3 weeks. Being stuck in such an environment for 3 weeks has made me come to appreciate the importance of development and technology in every phase of life once again because without these two, we will still be living in an ignorant, still and backward society.

My frustration started one faithful morning when I left the house to board a vehicle that would take us to the site and after boarding the car, we moved just a few distance then I noticed my phone was not on me as I wanted to make a call that time. Asking the driver to stop as I stepped down to check where I was last standing, I then sighted the phone from a distance and when I was close enough I saw what I wasn't expecting that time at all.

The phone had fall some minutes before i entered the car and unfortunately for me, the back tire of the car climbed on top the phone thereby crushing the screen. Looking at it I didn't really feel too troubled because I believed that I will fix it before the day runs out only for me to be disappointed again that day. I went in search of where to fix the phone but found none in the whole village and that was when I truly felt the typicality of the environment I was in.

To be honest, I felt like I had been caged for a while and now am free because I have concluded my work there and left the place as soon as I can because another minute, hour or day spent there meant subjecting myself to another level of discomfort. I feel great now that am back to the town where there is network, light, good food and many other amenities.

I really do hope the government will do something about rural areas that are not accessible and also help in providing basic necessities to them like water, light and network stations at least to help make their lives abit easy.

Most importantly am glad that I can finally write again and engage with you guys because I have really missed this platform and everyone here.
