We are all built differently in other to achieve different things in life regardless of whether our goals align together with others along the journey to achieve success and accomplishment. There are times that we sacrifice alot in other to make a difference for the benefits of all humanity be it through innovations, technological advancement, social reforms and scientific research but still we encounter resistance in the process, even from the people we look up to for guidance and mentorship.
Recently I was watching an old interview where Elon Musk was invited and the interviewer asked him some couples of questions mostly regarding his field of specialisation in the rocketry industry where people who had been in the industry decades before him said "he doesn't know what he doesn't know". To me the question sounded cryptic but Elon just laughed it off by saying how can anybody know what they don't know.
The interviewer further asked that when critics say you can't do it, what is your answer to that and immediately Elon responded with unwavering confidence "we've done it". That was a response from a man who knows the risks and setbacks in the industry especially when people you look up to are further trying to bring you down and discourage you. Neil Armstrong, a legend in NASA was kind of not satisfied with the lack of experience of space x (Elon Musk space company) in the space industry and was speaking against the ideas and visions of space x.
Neil had his reasons for saying that as an experienced astronaut, but I feel guiding and advising the space x executives and management is better than the direct confrontation. My point for bringing this up is for you to imagine that the first man on the moon telling you that your venture into space is a fools gold? How would that make you feel as a person.
I want you all to look at all the achievements and accomplishment of Elon Musk in the Tech and Space industry (you have your views on him and I have mine) but still he faces that level of resistance from renowned and respected people from the society. I believe that where you have vision, often times people who had visions yesterday only have sight for today. As an entrepreneur and innovator, it's advisable for you not to put all your eggs in one basket and what I mean by that is, the people you look up to will disappoint you one day intentionally or unintentionally.
Alot of things will be said about what you are trying to accomplish just to discourage and sabotage your plans and dreams. I will say those disappointments comes as a result of people not seeing that world that doesn't yet exist because where you see vision, they only have sight. We have to be careful not to allow our mentors and past heroes to dictate and tell us how our future is supposed to be.
They are there to guide you with their experience and wisdom but you are the architect of your future. Do not let someone sight about today distract your vision about tomorrow and the future.
