Power of Positive Perception: Seeing the Best in People

I have come to understand that the way you see the world is a function of how you see people. Everyday we live, we are presented with choices, these include choosing how to relate with people, how to interpret their actions, and how to allow their behaviours to affect how we see them. One of the very vital and powerful choices to make is to see the good that is in people. It does not mean that you overlook their flaws or try to believe that they are perfect, rather it is about focusing on the positive side that is in them. No matter how someone is, there will definitely be a good side of them that can be consolidated on. When you focus on seeing the positive side in people, you will unleash the power of perception - which can determine, not only how we perceive the world, but what we become. ![merry-christmas-4788167_640.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmYPnX6QhYm7uYKfC23AvaP6NSh9qT3Z1uM8zLXVj3oKyd/merry-christmas-4788167_640.jpg) Image from [Pixabay](https://pixabay.com/photos/merry-christmas-embrace-hug-4788167) When you focus on seeing the good that is in people, you are indirectly training your mind to be compassionate, hopeful, and understanding. At this point in time and in this era, a lot of people focus more on amplifying the mistakes and errors of people, and dwell so much on their weaknesses and shortcomings. No wonder their own life is also heavily flawed. Of course, you tend to begin to look like what you constantly look at. If all you see in people is flaw, you will also be flawed yourself. But if you look for kindness, talents, and potentials in people, you will discover the qualities that will even inspire you to become a better version of yourself. Positive perception is the choice you make to focus on the light emitted, and not on the shadows cast. I remember what happened in the place I worked part-timely when I was in school. There were some new intakes that came in. Within the first few weeks of starting, they made various mistakes, and this made the supervisor label them as incompetent, careless, and unserious. This affected them and they continued in the error. But a senior colleague of them saw the good in them and also saw the willingness to learn. After all, for the fact that they made errors means that they actually tried, and it is part of the processes of learning. So he called them and put them through. Adorably, they understood it and from there, they mastered the task. Imagine if the senior colleague did not see the good in them and did not reach out to them, they would have been progressing in errors, and they may even be asked to leave. Those new intakes became so good that they became valuable assets to the company. This was possible because someone saw good in them. It is worthy to note that seeing good in people and the power of positive perception have ripple effects. When someone is seen for their good quality, it will motivate them to do more and put in more efforts to become even better. This can also trigger encouragement, which will awaken the hidden strength in the person. Even in the family, when parents choose to recognise their children for their efforts, rather than for their mistake, the children will feel valued, confident, and will also motivate them to do more. In your relationship with people also, when you focus on loyalty, love, and kindness, instead of the person's flaws, the friendship will become stronger. ![girl-1641215_640.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmUVSDqhVznwmTxWS5EXgp39hbqoNMBmoyDNBDukGVo22j/girl-1641215_640.jpg) Image from [Pixabay](https://pixabay.com/photos/girl-father-portrait-family-1641215) Seeing the good in people also changes the way we live. That is, it makes you free from constant negativity and judgement, while making room for positivity and peace of mind. It also makes you to develop patience because you will begin to understand that everyone, including you, is on a journey and not yet perfect. How you see others will also influence how you see yourself. If you see good in people, you will also more likely see good in yourself. Two people can be looking at the same thing and they will both be seeing two different things. There is always more than one side to a thing, so try to focus on the good side. The power of positive perception is not a gift but a choice that can change a lot of lives. This begins with being intentional about what you see, and then how you interpret it. So the next time you meet someone, do not be quick to look at what is wrong with them, but rather look for what is right. ***Thanks for reading***
