Rising By Lifting Others

If you shine your light for someone to see their path, it will not make your light to dim, rather it gives value to your own light and will also make your light to become brighter. It is sad that in today's world, competition has almost taken over the entire stage, and people now think that they are in a competition against each other for success. It is even sad that some people think that for their own success to come, someone else may have to fail. But this is not the case. When your own candle lights another candle, your own will not he extinguished, but the entire room will be even more lightened. Lifting people up is not meant to bring you down, rather it is meant to strengthen you and make you stronger by the day. ![hands-5655424_640.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmUhk72ieb2m1iSD1DpX7skBgPTf369Z6YtKfuiWhxfPwC/hands-5655424_640.png) Image from [Pixabay](https://pixabay.com/illustrations/hands-reach-hand-shaking-humanity-5655424) Encouraging someone or helping them in anyway you can, may look simple, but the power that is in it to positively affect, not just the life of the beneficiary, but your own life, it without question. I remember there was a time, during my first year in the university some years back. For some reasons, some friends of mine were not in the class because they were still trying to conclude their documentation processes. So they came to me and asked me to tutor them on what was taught in the class on that day. I discovered that when I began reading from my course materials and started teaching them, I even understood the topic more. Adorably, the places I did not understand well became clearer. During our exam of that semester in the course, it was centered almost entirely on that topic. I aced it excellently. Imagine if I did not teach them, I may not even have understood the topic well. So the tutorial was not just beneficial to my friends but for me as well. There is no good that you do to someone, maybe in terms of kind words, giving advice, helping, physical assistance, etc, that is ever wasted. In fact, in the not-so-distant future, you will become a beneficiary of the same good. While growing up, there was this rich man within the neighbourhood were I grew up that I remember his story. He was a businessman who helped so many people within his neighbourhood and even beyond. He was into the importation of goods, so he taught a lot of people his line of business and they were also doing very well. He knew that by teaching them, they will become better people in the society, but he did not know that he will benefit from them at some points. A tragedy befell him in his business when his container lost on transit. He lost close to a billion at a go, and this set him many miles back. The money remaining with him was used to offset his debts, and was left with practically nothing. He was almost going into depression, but his past acts of goodness spoke for him. Some of the people that he helped to rise came together and raised massive donation for him. With that, he was able to pick the fragments of what was left and his business bounced back. Imagine if he did not help to raise anyone, he would have been forgotten when he fell. Investing in human development is among the best forms of investments that anyone can possibly go into. ![hands-2847508_640 (1).jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSB26UkkUmVet6HUt38qKm4QVnpaDuFMEVp3g3i4wQmcC/hands-2847508_640%20(1).jpg) Image from [Pixabay](https://pixabay.com/photos/hands-friendship-friends-children-2847508) History is full of people who have risen to the next phase of their lives because they helped others to rise. In any place you are and at any point in time, if you have any opportunity to help anyone, see it as an opportunity to sow good things into the future that you may reap from. There are some people who are enjoying from the kindness their parents sowed many years back. I remember when I was doing my internship. Someone came to run some services. It was already late for the day, as the official closing time was passed. It was on a Friday, and the deadline was on Monday morning. He was explaining to my direct supervisor that where he was coming from was far and that if he does not get it done, coming back again on Monday, he might miss it and the portal would be closed. As they were saying this, I overheard his surname. It sounded familiar, and I quickly recalled that one of my secondary school teachers bore the same name. So I asked if he was related to her and he said that she is her mum. I had to plead with my supervisor that we should restart the systems and get the services done. This has never happened in the history of the organisation. I went all out for him. In fact, my supervisor handed his job over to me, and I ensured that I got it done. When it was done, the guy was appreciating me, but he did not understand that his mum was good to me when she was my teacher many years back. The acts of good she sowed years back was what his son reaped from. When you have an opportunity to help someone to rise, do it, because the person you help to rise today may be who will raise you up tomorrow. ***Thanks for reading***
