The Potency of Silence: Winning Without Fighting

This present world is becoming too noisy with endless opinions, arguments here and there, so much that silence is now considered an act of weakness. Some people even think that victory comes from being loud, by trying to prove a point, or by suppressing others with your words. What they fail to understand is that true victory does not only come when you raise your voice, but when you know when to raise your voice and when to keep silent. Silence, when used wisely does not mean weakness, rather it becomes a very potent weapon that can deliver victory without even needing to fight. ![pexels-olly-3822693.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmRpwfRq7NJ3xNpxrupB8yv4m1iso3ynASJ8r4qLeVFo5J/pexels-olly-3822693.jpg) Image from [Pexels](https://www.pexels.com/photo/woman-doing-shh-hand-gesture-3822693) A very big lesson that life will teach you at some points is that there are fights which do not deserve your energy. In fact, you can even lose points by speaking in certain instances. If someone intentionally wants to misconstrue your words, then there is nothing you say that will not be used against you. In this case, silence may become your winning point. Silence has a way of disarming aggressors because they will not have what to react to and what to implicate you for. Anytime you begin to argue with someone who has made up their mind to misunderstand you, then you are indirectly fanning the flame, and you will not win. But when you remain silent, you deprive the flame the needed oxygen to burn. One the things that I have observed about the strong and successful people is that they know when not to speak. No wonder it has been said proverbially that "silence is a very clear language of the strong." The more you speak unnecessarily, the more you lose value. But when you master the art of silence, you will gain strength. There are some conflicts that have been created simply by what was said, which silence would have avoided. In silence, you also keep your dignity and self-respect intact. If you are unsure of the results of your words, or if you know that they will trigger some unwholesome consequences, then you should keep silent. Silence helps to prepare you for self-mastery. When you withdraw your from the noise flying around, you will be able to think well, meditate, reason out the solution to challenges. More so, if you can control your words, then you will be able to master a lot of things about yourself including anger and even pride. If you can stay silent in the face of provocation, then you have unlocked the strength within you. Staying silent when you are angered will save you a lot of regrets, and will also make you to master the situation and master yourself. If what you want to say is not worth it, or it will put you in trouble at a later time, then wisdom should tell you that you need to keep silent. It is far better to be few in speech and prevent troubles than to try to prove a point by your words and end up in more troubles. ![pexels-ibrahim-can-duran-562239220-33645984.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmY5e38nxtyVBUD8dRyGXz7dG4p4Z3vvUvxrFUtdzcv7qH/pexels-ibrahim-can-duran-562239220-33645984.jpg) Image from [Pexels](https://www.pexels.com/photo/person-waiting-on-a-subway-platform-bench-33645984) Noise may be dominant at the moment, but at the end, silence will still win. It is worth noting that winning without fighting does not mean avoiding battles, rather it means choosing your battles wisely. It also means that you know who you are. Imagine a lion majestically walking through his territory - will he be stopping and wasting his time roaring at the tiny creatures that will growl at him? When you know yourself and know who you are, you will not waste your time trying to prove a point. More often than not, silence is a subtle way of telling your opposition that you know who you are and that you will not waste your time on them. You have to also understand that silence does not mean that you are empty or that you lack what to say, rather it is an expression of wisdom. It is not every insult that needs to be replied. It is not every rumour that should catch your attention. If you begin to trade words with them, they will succeed in bringing you to their level and then stain your reputation. Sometimes, your silence is an enough answer to give to them. Always remember that mastering the art of silence can hand you victory without even needing to fight. ***Thanks for reading***
