Hello everyone. It is time for greenhouse update. Last update was in May. We went for a same combination of plants in our garden with some changes and new additions. As always we have tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. We are started consuming all three of the them. This year we reduced number of tomatoes and instead increased peppers. Also we planted some strawberries for the first time in the greenhouse. We got some special onions so they are part of the greenhouse as well. For now plants are doing good. There are most probably some type of aphids on several cucumbers but they are doing better now. Lets take closer look at the plants.
Tomatoes
When it comes to tomatoes we did a bit change this year. Last year there was 60 tomato plants and this year we reduced number to 46. We plant two double rows across the greenhouse. Now with less number of tomato plants there is a more space and air flow in the middle.
And instead of tomatoes we planted more peppers. Here you can see tomatoes and peppers in the same row. Also it is easier to move since tomatoes take a lot of space when they grew bigger.
We picked first tomatoes approximately two weeks ago. Now daily you can find tomatoes. And they are so delicious this year.
We have three different types of tomatoes. We planed of having only two but some of the cherry tomatoes ended up being different type.
Quite bigger than cherry tomatoes. It is growing nicely and for sure it is good to have different types of plants.
Tomato plants keep flowering. There are tomatoes on the lower parts of the plants and flowers are on the upper parts of the tomato plant.
Peppers
Next ones are peppers. This year there are 160 pepper plants in our greenhouse. We can say that peppers are taking over the greenhouse. There are four different type of peppers. One of them is early pepper. We already started consuming them this year. They are nice and big. Previous years peppers were on the sides of the greenhouse and this year instead of some tomatoes they filled up the open space.
Here you can see all different peppers. We have bell peppers, tomato peppers and red bull horn peppers. We make pickled peppers from some of them. Red bull horn peppers are used to make ajvar. Ajvar is sauce or chutney made of peppers and eggplants. Stuffed peppers are made of course.
Here are photos of different peppers in our greenhouse.
These are tomato peppers.
Bell peppers.
Later on they got a bit reddish color.
Yellow bull horn peppers. These are early bull horn peppers. If bull horn pepper is yellow it means they are early pepper.
And these are red bull horn peppers. They are green now. Later as they are ready to harvest they turn red. And they are main ingredient for a ajvar.
Cucumbers
Cucumbers are guarding the corners of the greenhouse. As peppers and tomatoes we also started to consume them.
Cucumbers are growing fast. Every day you can find new ones. There are so many flowers and small cucumbers on the plants.
Bees enter the greenhouse and visit the flowers.
Beside bees there are yellowjackets and their home. They choose cucumber to build their nest . They mind their own business and dont bother anyone. At least they did not attack anybody for now.
On some cucumber plants near entrance some type of aphids appeared. At one point lots of ants gathered on the plant as they do when aphids are around. Some of leaves on lower parts fell off but now it is getting better. You can see ants on the leaf.
Strawberries
Strawberries were experiment this year. It was to see how they do and hey are doing good. We collected some strawberries. If we add one more greenhouse maybe there can be more strawberries as well.
Onions
In one corner there are garlic that we got from our relative. After harvest we will see how they are like.
We are watering greenhouse usually in the morning or at evening. We water tomatoes every two days and peppers every day. During days weather is hot and nights are a bit cold. So we must close greenhouse at night and open in the early morning. That is all for now.
