Hello everyone. Recently while in Klagenfurt I visited Botanical Garden Klagenfurt. It is super place to explore, learn and see many different plants and relax while doing so. Botanischer Garten Klagenfurt or Botanical Garden Klagenfurt is founded in 1862. It contains mainly local plants and plants from other part of Austria and plants from worldwide. Establishment is open all year long and it is free to visit. In building part of Botanical Garden there is state herbarium, with many collections of dried plants and with oldest one dating back to 1752. From May to Septembers there are weekly lectures on world of botany. You can explore the botanical garden through the lovely path ways. There is waterfall on the one side of the botanical garden which ends up in the pond in the middle. You can walk around or sit on the banks and enjoy the scenery.

Lets start from the beginning. This is entrance to the Botanical Garden. Already so many trees. Location of garden is near small forest and hiking area.

On the right side is building of botanical garden. Like I mentioned in the beginning inside the botanical center building are many collections of dried plants (herbarium). Also botanical garden exchange seeds with other botanical gardens internationally. There is connection with more than 360 botanical garden over the world and around 3000 seeds samples are sent yearly.

It is up to you to choose starting route to explore. Plants have labels with their names so it is easy to gather information.

Here we split as I decided to go through this narrow path.

It leads to this bat tunnels. To protect civilian population building of tunnel system started in 1942. And some of the tunnels are used by Botanical Garden to shelter plants over winter. Also as of 2009 Bat tunnels project introduced these tunnels as shelter during winter for bats. Out of 23 bat species in this area around 11 species of bats live or hunt in the Botanical Garden. They feed of insects.

They stay in tunnels during winter. Any bat that is found after veterinarian check is released in bat tunnels.

It was very interesting to see this. I did not expect to see bat tunnels in Botanical Garden. Interesting to read that that many bat species live and hunt in here.

We continue our walk. You are surrounded with many different plants. Each of them is different. There are place to sit and relax.

Water pond is in the central part of Botanical Garden. We will go there later.

This is waterfall. It refreshes whole place.

As you walk you most probably wont pass by near same plant again. Everything is new and each plant is different.

There is wooden shad explaining rock types as I understood.

Sempervivum area. Many different types of Sempervivum.

This is inner part of the Botanical Garden.

Mediterranean plants are here.

Cacti area.

Cacti are very interesting. So many different types and shapes on one place.

And they are quite long and big. Their size is different from what you may encounter in shops and garden stores.

You need to be careful around all these spines.

And Balkan area is here. That is our peninsula. These plants can be in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Inner area of the Botanical Garden with damp biotopes plants.

It is nice to have place to sit and rest.

The waterfall is a lovely feature especially with plants around the water.

And now we are in farmer plants area. Here you will see many familiar plants. Green beans looks very healthy.

Vegetables that are common in our gardens. Peppers and zucchini.

Tomatoes. You can see red, yellow and black tomatoes at one place.

They look delicious.

Sunflowers and marigolds.
