Lessons from My Life Experiences

Life is diverse in terms of experiences. Things that we see, hear or pass by every day define who we are. At one time these experiences can be good and at other times they can be bad. However, the good and the bad are used to shape our character, educate us, and teach us to be ready tomorrow. In my case, there are certain life experiences that have made deep impressions on my mind and I think they are the ones that are steering the individual I am becoming. The experience of growing up in Nigeria was one of the most significant in my life. Life here is not always easy. One may have days when the power supply is fluctuating, when travelling is hectic or when the cost of things has suddenly increased. ![mother-5374622_1280.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sammywrite/23ynNXjdaCBv5QTgSodh4ehVW4yaWNx46UNeYFzugwsdAeHLLr2zZw8ETrpYrzW9M11iS.jpg) [Image Source](https://pixabay.com/photos/mother-old-woman-tenderness-5374622/) Resilience is what I have learnt by living in such a society. I have also realized that despite how difficult life is, one should never give up. Nigerians are notorious hustlers who know how to survive and smile despite the circumstances. This spirit has passed into me and I bring it with me everywhere. The other significant life experience that influenced me was school life. There is a struggle with education in Nigeria. Occasionally, there may be congestion in the classroom, lecturers may strike, or there may be inadequacy of learning materials. However, I found out that with determination one can still manage to succeed in such a place. I recall some of my nights when I was forced to study using candlelight or study with a rechargeable lamp. It was not pleasant, but it taught me concentration and perseverance. I do this today, when I am going through difficult moments, I tell myself of those days and say, if I made it through then, I will make it through now. The family has also contributed significantly towards my experiences. I was brought up in a Nigerian family that has culture, discipline and good values. I learned to respect the elders, greet people, and support the family members regardless of the circumstances. These principles inform the way I treat people nowadays. I will not pass an ageing person without greetings, and I will not pass a person in need without having the desire to assist him. These teachings are sometimes so basic but define the way one associates with society. ![stone-2127669_1280.webp.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sammywrite/23zR9uVRkmLUFmquFw85Y9xi6ig22cXQX24AtNA2FK8W5Sb6ouZSMNzVG7bi6Gt896RDy.png) [Image Source](https://pixabay.com/illustrations/stone-push-overcoming-obstacle-2127669/) I also had an experience of disappointment. One time I was applying to something that I really would want- something that I thought would transform my life. I prayed, I hoped and I prepared and I was not picked at the end of the day. At first, I felt discouraged. I wondered to myself, why was it that life was such a pain? However, after a certain period, I understood that refusal is a constituent of development. It is something that gave me a different kind of power. Ever since when I encounter failures I no longer view them as an end but rather as a means to an end which is more favorable. Friendship is another experience that is memorable. My interaction with people of diverse backgrounds has been enlightening to me in a number of ways. New foods, music, cultures and ideas have been presented to me by friends. Simultaneously, I have also been betrayed by some of my friends. It hurts to lose faith in a person who was a brother or a sister to you, yet it helps one to see the importance of making wise choices in relationships. Due to this fact, loyalty and truthfulness are even more important to me. Throughout these experiences, there is one thing that is similar in all, and that is that life is a teacher. Some of the lessons are sweet and sweet, but other times bitter and painful. Nevertheless, in each experience there is some message within it. I have also learned to be patient, continue working and hope that tomorrow is going to be better. To sum up, the life I have had up to this point has made me what I am today a young Nigerian guy who believes in being strong, appreciating family and friends and knowing that there is no end of the road. I am aware that there will be other experiences in the future as I go about my life. However, I am no longer afraid, as every experience, regardless of whether it was good or bad, is a chance to learn, develop and become stronger.
