It is always in people’s minds to know what will happen tomorrow, next month, or even years ahead. Others visit the fortune tellers, others read the horoscopes, and others still, even count on their dreams or visions. However, after listening to it and deeply pondering on this subject matter in MCGI, I came to understand that the solution to this is the Word of God. It is not the wisdom or even the intelligence of human beings, but about the truth of God. Based on the Bible, it is evident that God is the only one who knows what is in store. In Isaiah 46: 9-10 (KJV), God states, I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me declaring the end of the beginning. This verse answers the question by itself. And the God himself can define what will come before it even comes. He is not speculating; He knows it because he is the Author of time. Time, on the contrary, is a constraint to Man. We can only know what has already transpired or what is occurring at the present. I believe when I ponder on it, not even the smartest intelligent human being can actually be accurate on the future. Scientists can predict the weather or economists can predict the financial trends but they are all calculated and guessed. They are once again able to fail since circumstances may vary. Proverbs chapter twenty-seven verse one tells us, do not boast tomorrow of thyself, because thou knowest not the day that may come. This passage reminds me that irrespective of how smart or mature we may consider ourselves, we will never be able to know what tomorrow will bring. But there is this fact, which is the truth, that man can know not the future, by his own power, but that God can give to men certain things, as He wills. In the bible we come across prophets that God used to project what would happen in future. As an illustration, in the book of Daniel 2:28 Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar, But there is a God in heaven that revealest secrets. Daniel did not receive the glory to know the future but attributed the glory to God. The latter, implies that when God desires to communicate something about the future, He can reveal it in His chosen servants, but it is not the knowledge of man, but that of God. Even our Lord Jesus Christ did affirm this as He said in the book of the acts of the apostle in the 1st verse chapter 7; It is not your business to know the times or the seasons, which the father hath put in his own power. This verse is a definite indication of the fact that only God has the power to know the future. Man can not coerce it, however he may strive. Other individuals attempt to attempt to get information of the future by means of spiritualists or mediumship, however that is perilous and defies the wishes of God. Deuteronomy 18: 10-12 gives the warning that we should not consult diviners or fortune tellers since it is an abomination in the eyes of God. In my personal consideration, I have learnt that ignorance of the future teaches us faith and humility. Man could know all that would take place then we would cease to rely on God. But since we do not know, we have to leave Him the day by day to guide us. And this is the reason why the Bible urges us in Proverbs 3:5-6, - Trust in the Lord with all thy heart; and lean not unto thy own understanding. In every circumstance recognise him, and he will guide thy paths. This scripture assures me since it assures me that although I do not know what is going to happen tomorrow, God knows, and He will see me through it. The other valuable lesson that I learnt in this topic is that God does not tell us all that we can prepare. Indicatively, Jesus informed His disciples of the signs of the end times in Matthew 24, not to cause them panic, but to make them prepared. Similarly, God does not always reveal us the entire picture because he will occasionally send us signs or warnings over some things. This makes our walk of faith and not sight. Conclusively, having read and meditated about this MCGI subject matter, I am realistically aware that men cannot know the future independently. This is the power of God, the Alpha and the Omega, who is aware of the end and the beginning. The future is not something that we as humans need to take care of and to foretell but rather to have faith in someone who has it. Knowing this gives me peace. I have also learned to live day by day knowing that tomorrow is not all about it, but that I have to trust in God and His wisdom. And so, that, according as Jeremiah 29:11 eloquently writes, because I know the thoughts that I think of you, saith the Lord, that they are thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give thee an expected end. Yes, only God knows what will happen — and that is all.
