It is one of the time-old questions of the heart of man, a question, Why do good people suffer and the wicked prosper. I took much time pondering, praying and reading the Bible before doing this since it is a subject that almost every soul can relate to. On numerous occasions, I have witnessed good individuals who are in love with God going through pain, illness, or disappointment. Meanwhile, there are certain evil individuals who apparently proceed without difficulties, which means they are rich and on peace. This may make the heart bewildered. Yet when we go deep into the Scriptures we can start to find the answer more easily.
According to the bible, suffering may not necessarily be a godly penalty. In some cases, God tests good individuals by making them go through tribulations to strengthen their faith and character. Job 113643 1-2 displays the misery that Job experienced despite being a righteous man. Job was not wrong in anything, he was just God did it to test his faith and to demonstrate to the devil that righteousness cannot be founded only on blessings. Eventually, God rewarded Job and blessed him than ever (Job 42:10). This reminds me that the process of suffering on behalf of the righteous is a momentary and a meaningful one.
The other lesson I got is that God does not view life as human beings do. We can only have a glimpse of the current moment, whilst God knows the entire picture. The evil might appear to be doing well nowadays, but their fate is destruction unless they repent. Psalm 73:3 18 explains how the author himself fell into the situation where he envied the success of the evil. But as he reached the shrine of God, he knew their last destination. In verses 1718 God has placed them on slippery ground, and their judgment will arrive.
At times, God puts good people through hardships to ensure that their lives can be the light to others. The agony may turn into a witness. The ability of a believer to endure the ordeal, yet still believing in God, is a motivation to others. The apostles in the New Testament went through a lot of sufferings yet by the process, a lot of souls were saved. Romans 8:18 is reminding us that the pain we go through today is not worth any comparison with the glory that is to be shown.
Also, through pain, we learn that we should rely on God. When things are going well people are likely to forget about God. But pain is a kind of bringing unto him humble heart, 2 Corinthians 4:17 says that our light affliction is working with us a far much greater and more everlasting weight of glory. This informs me that spiritual blessings mean better than bodily enjoyment.
The well being of the evil is not a blessing on the other side. Such riches are momentary and unfilled without God. Proverbs 10: 22, states that the blessing of God will render rich and will not bring sadness. A good number of evil individuals are rich, yet in their hearts, they are intimidated, lost and miserable. Their success is short-lived.
Lastly, we are promised in The Bible that God is just. He will reward man one day based on his works. In Ecclesiastes 12: 14, God will judge every action. Hence, the anguish of the godly will not be erased and the well-being of the evil will be short-lived.
To conclude, good people are not sufferers because God is not a hating being, He is merely doing something profound in their lives faith, character, testimony, and eternal reward. And the evil are flourishing now, but they will be ruined unless they repent to God. This realization makes me relaxed and trust God more.
