As humans we have our own free will as I have said before and this free will is bound to us. One thing about God is that he wants us to also exercise our free will without us being forced to do or obey his will, unlike some other places or religions in the world where people are being forced to do according to their will. That's God who is always happy seeing us doing his will.
According to Bro. In his teaching, he made us understand that the will of God is not forced down on us, but that we are free to choose what we would love to do or obey.
Bro. Eli went further to tell us that not everything that happens to us is as a result of the will of God. In fact, he said there's some things that happen to us as a result of our own free will and also from the will of the devil.
He further made reference to Mary Magdalene who had demons in her in the past, he said the seven demons in her was not the will of God but that of satan. But that once she had come to God, that will was of the past and has nothing to do with her again.
Bro. Eli reiterated to us in Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
In conclusion, in the above scriptural verse, he, Bro. Eli was just telling us that God in his concern has recommended to us to choose life and not death so that we and our seed may live.
