Greetings!
Education, they say, is the best legacy. Hmm, there's no doubt about the saying that education is the best legacy and this is because it's been put to test on some many occasions and that's why it can be said about EDUCATION that, its legacy has been tested and as well it can be trusted.
Having said much about education, I would like to share my little experience about this saying. While I was growing up, my mum who happened to be a teacher would always tell me to be more serious about my studies, then I used to be too much like her own was too much as she would be telling me that the only legacy she can give to me is education.
So, because of her belief that the only good legacy she can give to me is education, this woman, I mean my mum would not even let me rest as she would always be on my neck to study at home even after school.
One day she was teaching me my mathematics assignment. On this particular day, my mind was not with her nor on the assignment as I was far away playing with my friends, but physically present with her.
So, when she noticed that my mind was not with her, she asked me a question and my response was that, I don't know. When I told her this, she looked at me in a strange way and began to lecture me on the need for me to embrace what she's telling me about my education.
But even at that, I was not that convinced about her thoughts towards education. So, not long to that time, I lost her to the cold hand of death and there's nobody to even charge me with the need for me to take my life and learning seriously.
So, when reality dawned on me, I went on a self retreat and thought of all that she's told me in the past. It's after a thorough assessment of what she had told me while she's alive that I got to know that she's not even handed anything over to me as a legacy than her words which are about taking my studies more seriously.
It's when I realized that the only legacy she had handed over to me at her death was her word on education that I gathered myself together to be more serious about my learning. So, my getting serious was not on a platter of gold, but on the word of my mother.
So, after gathering myself together, I set goals for myself on what I would like education to do for me and part of that goal is to be a successful engineer in life.
This goal was what I pursued and now, I have been able to achieve it as I graduated with the first class from my department. It's at my graduation that I told those that came to celebrate with me that the only thing my mum has handed over to me as a legacy is Education.
In conclusion, education is the best and only legacy that would not decay or collapse. So, for those of us that know that, let's keep at it and for those that are still not, let them know that it's the best legacy.
