Greetings!
The popular saying that education is the best legacy is not just an ordinary saying, but a saying that says a lot about the importance of education to human development and also the needed societal development.
Having said this, I would like to talk about the educational system of my country which is currently not gender based as it used to be in the past.
In the past years, most especially during the dark ages, we learnt through oral history that only the male child in the family was entitled or given the opportunity to go to school. But that was then, now, things have changed and people now see learning in another perspective which is what it used to be in the past.
Now, there is no more discrimination when it comes to both genders pursuing their academic goals. In fact, both the male and female children are being given the same and equal right to pursue their academic goals without limit.
So, in my country's educational system, there is no limit to learning and also there's no gender discrimination towards learning. In fact, if we look at the statistics of student enrollment into all levels of education in my country, we would see that the female gender are now out numbering their male counterparts.
Although, this did not come to me as a surprise as the level of awareness towards the girls education in my country has been on the increase both from the ministry of women affairs and from their counterparts from the ministry of education.
This awareness has brought to the notice of the women folks in my country the benefit of good and sound formal education. In one of the awareness I was privileged to listen to, the women were told that their post is no more in the kitchen as it's believed by most of them in the past. They were told that they too can take up leadership positions in the society and even do more than what men can do.
Hence, all these are the factors behind the surge in the enrollment of the female gender in the education system of my country and this they do to the peak of their educational dream and now, what used to be strange and impossible in the history of Nigeria's education system have been made possible through the girl child education.
However, the surge in the enrollment of female children in the education system of my country has not in any way limited the male enrollment in the educational system of my country. In fact, both the male and the female are in a healthy competition when it comes to their educational pursuit and this has been so encouraging and it's a plus to the educational system of my country.
In conclusion, one thing that I have always loved about the educational system of my country, Nigeria is that, there's nothing like limitation in the system and the fact that both genders have been given equal right to pursue their dreams through education has been the greatest thing to have happened to the nation.
