Knowing someone for a very long time or even maintaining a personal relationship with them doesn't guarantee that such a person would come to one's aid when the need be, but that should stop us from maintaining a good relationship with them.
The case of a friend of mine whose name is Niyi was a pointer to this fact. I and Niyi were very close friends and I can say we grew up together from the same community and we were both known for doing everything together in the community and beyond.
However, as time went on, I realized that Niyi and I were not growing at the same pace as he had overtaken me on all fronts, but for someone like me, I really didn't let this bothered me as I have always believed that, “God's time is the best.” and even at this, Niyi used to respect me for my kind of a person.
Furthermore, in my closet, I used to wonder how Niyi has been running the affairs of his life and getting the necessary result. Not only that, I used to think of what he's doing right and what I'm not doing right.
So, one day, I walked up to him and asked him how he was doing it to making it big, but in his response, he said,
“Sam, what I'm doing is nothing special.” “How?” I asked. “As you can see, I'm only refilling gas for the end users,” he said. “Okay,” I replied.
So, after we had had the conversation I left his place, but the thing I realized in the course of our discussion was that he was not so sincere in his responses.
Aside from this, I was wondering within myself as to how he had achieved all that he had achieved with what he had claimed he was doing and this was because I knew how the thing was being done also as that was also what I was into.
In fact, I was the one who introduced him to the business when he had nothing and I can boldly say that I had started the business long enough before introducing him to the business.
So, thinking about him making it big in the same business I was doing and me not doing well at all in the business was like a mystery to me.
However, months later, after I had decided not to ask him about how he was making it big in the same business I was not making any profit, I met with a friend of ours at a prayer camp. The name of this friend is Ade and it's through me that he got to know Ade but I have for a very long time lost contact with this guy.
So, when my friend and I saw each other, we were very happy and we both greeted each other. Ade asked everybody and I told him they were all fine.
So, after he had asked of everybody, he specially asked about Niyi saying,
“How is Niyi?” “He's fine,” I replied. “The guy must be doing well now?” he asked. “Yeah, he's doing well,” I replied.
It's at his questions that I became suspicious of what's happening as I was wondering why he would have asked about the guy, especially after I had told him everyone was fine.
So, I asked him,
“Why all these questions about Niyi?” he replied and said,” nothing.” “There must be something,” I replied.
It's when I said this that he came out straight and narrated how Niyi had met him and how he had given him information about how to invest in the crypto world and other related things and that ever since he had told and taught him about all these things, he had not about the guy as the guy had blocked all the channels of communication through which he can reach out to him.
When I heard this, I was a little bit shocked as to why someone I called my friend would have lied to me that it's the same thing I was doing that was nothing fetching me as much gain that's now fetching, but instead of me getting angry at him, i took solace in the fact that he was even ungrateful to the person that taught him how to solidify his income base.
So, ever since then, I decided to give him a space as he had proved not to be a trusted friend and thank God the other guy also taught me the same which is now paying me well.
