There are certain quotes I find weird when I listen to them, and one of them has to be the famous A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins With a Step. I refer to it as famous because you must have come across it not once, and maybe not twice. It is that kind of quote you get to hear when somebody wants to get you off your feet.

I know what the quote is trying to say is that you should not get stuck in your fear and just bring with whatever it is you want to do, no matter how small the effect may be or the change it may create. But when you come to think of it on a literal standing ground, the journey of a thousand miles. Like, come on, I will never finish that kind of journey. Then you add the icing to the cake by telling me it begins with just one step. Tell me when that journey finishes, and I am so sure that I will never finish that journey with my two feet.
Well, picture this with me. Imagine you start the journey after waking up in the morning, brushing your teeth, putting on your Nike shoes to support your feet for the heavy journey ahead, and then you tell yourself that is one step, more to go. You have not even converted the number of human steps it would take to make up a thousand miles. Assuming 2,000,000 steps is what it takes, so once you make the first step, then it is 1,999,999 steps left. I am already discouraged if I want to be transparent about it.
What happened to just taking the first step or just do it like Nike's slogan? That is more encouraging in my opinion. I do not have to worry more about the miles ahead or the ones I have taken. Just all focused on the main goal.
Probably the dramatic effect in the quote is what makes it motivating since it passes across the message you should just start, no matter how small it may be, and when you also think about it, Life is a journey with so many trials and tribulations in the form of an endless journey. It got me thinking about what a funny image it is when I hear the quote.
Well, weird things just have a way of sticking simply because people have a funny way of remembering them. If the quote was so simple as just start, begin, or give it a try, people might not remember, and I probably would not have written a post about it. Then, when you think about the journey of a thousand miles begins with a step, now that is something that could stick. This one has definitely shocked me.
Nonetheless, the journey ahead will be long, challenging, and like certain times it will definitely not make sense, but you just keep going. Start with that first step and keep going; that message cannot be disputed.
