Days like this…

I woke up feeling not super motivated to go on with my usual routine. A part of me was not interested in doing anything, and the funniest thing, even my soul was not willing to burn out my thoughts to write this. The irony of life lies within the understanding that there will be days like this, where everything does not seem to fall in place, where your thought keeps resolving on memories down to the point your soul becomes so drunk off the soliloquizing of long memories. But can I just sit back and accept this ironic reality?

I remember listening to Dermont Kennedy's song Days Like This, which gave me the spark to write this post. He said in his song:

When it's not always raining, there'll be days like this When there's no one complaining, there'll be days like this When everything falls into place, like the flick of a switch Oh, my mama told me, there'll be days like this

With the breaking down of each verse and lyric in my mind, I began to understand that it's totally normal to have days when things click perfectly well and everything you work on goes as planned, the club you support like my ride and die, Arsenal will have their good wins, my chess bullet games will be filled with tactics blazing from left to right and I would get them all without a single miss, and every other thing just seems to be within the shackles of a good charm or a good day.

If our body and soul can cherish days like this, why do we still find it difficult to accept the bad ones? The days when we are faced with a writer's block on what to write about, days when we wish things would usually go as we wanted, days when you will stay on a losing streak all night long on Lichess, affecting the rating of your bragging rights, or days when your team just lost a painful game.

Speaking from experience, it is hard to accept a loss or be cordial with defeat. It is not just in humans, at least I can say that for myself. We always want the good days to last forever, whenever they come, and it's highly addictive when you get that taste of what winning feels like. That is why winners are always the children of many parents, and failures are the orphans nobody wants. The ride is sweet on the get-go, but can you face the turbulence that comes with it?

When you experience one of those days like this, where there is no juice left to stay productive and jovial. What do you have to say or do for yourself? Do you forsake the good ones by cursing the bad days like they have come to last forever, or do you accept your losses and keep going?

For me, I am learning to accept that there will be days like this. When I do not understand what is going on, and things do not just go my way. Take it as they come, for we can only enjoy the good days when we outlast the bad ones. There will be days like this. Take it or leave it.
