Hey guys,
I played in the HiveChess Saturday Tournament, Season 1, Round 9. We had a total of 25 players participating in the round, and surprisingly, @maestroask was not a part of them. In this 9th round, @tangibleay was our champion, winning the event for the first time with a total of 50 points followed by @dalods in 2nd place with a total of 40 points, and finally @poseout87 in 3rd place with a total of 34 points.
This post is to highlight some of my own personal games.
Tangible_ay vs ZGM_Samostically
1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Qxd5
As a lecturer of Scandinavian defense, it was not a bad idea to give the opening a shot in this game, so I went for the d5 after white played e4 and Qxd5 after my d5 pawn was captured.
3. Nc3 Qa5 4. d4 Nc6 5. d5 Nb4 6. a3 Bf5 7. Bd3
Since it was the opening stage of the game, my focus was on fast ways to develop my pieces, which is why you can see my knight is still on b4 even though it is being attacked by the white pawn on a3. Although do not forget that my queen on a5 is also playing a strong role in stopping white from capturing my b4 knight, because once that happens, the white rook on a1 gets captured by my a5 queen.
33. fxg2!
There were a lot of missed chances in this game, even when I missed the opportunity to capture a free white knight. But move 33. fxg2 was the move that sealed the deal for me in the game. Infact it is a checkmate in 7 moves. This is because after white plays Qxg2, I have Bd5 pinning the white queen to the white king and any attempt to save the queen will lead to losing more pieces. That is not all, the checkmate in the position lies in the two bishops aiming at the white king and there is no way to stop their threat even though he sacrifices pieces. My opponent played on but he could not win, there was enough time for me to get the win.

ZGM_Samostically vs Gmdalods-16
1. Nf3 c6 2. d4 d5 3. c4 Nf6 4. Nc3 e6 5. e3
The semi slav is what this opening is called.
This game is a product of spotting where your opponent places that piece after you attack them because sometimes they go from a bad square to a worse one. That is the best form of luck you can get in chess when your opponenet makes a sweet blunder because of oversight.
17. Qh5?
This was where my opponent made the blunder of giving me a free queen. After attacking his queen when he played Qh4 with g3 he played Qh5 blundering his queen to my d1 queen that is controlling that diagonal. I am glad I saw that fast enough because sometimes these simple moves can be hard to see when you are playing fast chess like what my opponent and I were doing with 1:30 mins each on our clock. After the blunder he did not have much to play for since he has lost his precious queen and I am no fish to lose such a game with a queen up and enough time on the clock.

I finished 8th on the standing and I guess this round is the one I have played more games than ever. There were some brilliant games, I’d feature two later on @sam.chess games review. Just wanted to share these games I played.
A huge congratulations to the winners, and see you all next week.
