The key and the thread

A memorable and loving incidence with Dad.

Dad holds the key of his trunk box tied to his thread and that way he feels his money is safe and whenever there is some need at home, he would go and open that trunk and give money. Being a Banker, he had practice of counting a lot of notes every day and that habit still is with him, he can count the notes much better than us.

When he was in ICU, they took out his thread (and thus the key) and gave it to me, so as soon as Dad came to home, he realized the thread and the key was missing and asked for it. Since the old thread was kept idle for some time, I requested our priest to create a new thread, involving some rituals and then made him wear after following the sacred practices. But then it probably reminded him more about the key and seeing his curiosity, we tried to take out the key from old thread, but the way he had tied it, was much complex and even he could not take out it. So I kept the old thread and the key at a place, saying tomorrow we will cut it and fix with a new ring and went to sleep.

Next morning it was not there and I was clueless because no one else touched it. When Dad got up, the old thread and key was attached to the new thread and my son noticed it and called me to see this loving incidence. Possibly he took it in the night and tried to wear, when he got up and went to wash room, but when asked he said, he does not remember that.

We patiently decoupled the old thread as he had created a mess, took out the key and put it with a new ring (as the old ring was not good and could create trouble) and gave him back to wear it on the new thread.

And then look at his happy face of accomplishments - he was happy to have the key back in his control and liked the new ring as the old ring was sometimes pinching him. These small things matters so much for them - they need too little but that little too much.

This post is a great memoir for us and my kids really loved his cute gestures - they are more empathetic towards him.
